The future Princess of Monaco is admitting to some of the difficulties the last Princess of Monaco had. Charlene Wittstock has given an interview to Tatler magazine which will be published this week. In the interview she comments that;
"The people I mixed with in Monaco didn't relate to my South African mentality or humor.”
Miss Wittstock is a former Olympic swimmer for South Africa. She also worked as a youth worker before moving to Monaco. Expanding on the difficulties of the move, she said:
"Of course I've been subject to jealousy, but that comes with the territory. Although I have met some wonderful people since I've been living in Monaco, I regard them all as acquaintances. I only have two people I consider friends here."
These comments are a bit different from her initial post-engagement interview with Nice-Matin where she stated:
“For over four years, I have learned about Monaco, its different populations – there are over 124 nationalities – and I really love this country…Deep in my heart, it is my country already.”
But, being brought into the small principality as the Sovereign Prince’s girlfriend, it can’t be easy to meet people. It hasn’t been all bad though, she did speak of meeting Prince Harry at a polo match:
"I met Harry at a polo match in July. What an incredible young man. I'm really hoping I get to know him better."
Royal watchers hope that she will find whatever she needs to feel at home in Monaco. The dreams of the Monegasque, for a return to the glamour of Rainier and Grace, are pinned on a happy and healthy Princess Charlene.
