Land of 10,000 lakes or land of 10,000 festivals? How about both? While fall's nearly on our doorstep, the advent of events, festivals and celebrations just keep coming, not missing a beat after the Labor Day holiday. Here are a few events for this weekend, in town and out of town for one to consider;
Defeat of Jesse James Days (9/8-9/12): Since 1948, Northfield has "celebrated" the skewed robbery attempt of the James/Younger gang. This year is no exception with a wide assortment of events from an art fair, carnival, the Jesse James Bike Tour to the Grand Day Parade. If weather holds out, this would be an ideal time to explore Northfield and all it has to offer. http://www.djjd.org/
The Taste of the Gunflint Trail (9/11): While it's early for peak fall colors, there's still plenty to experience on the Gunflint Trail from hiking, biking, and fishing, not to mention the first splash of fall colors. This Saturday, several lodges and outfitters will be having open houses as they cooking up recipes from the Taste of the Gunflint Trail cookbook. No doubt a treat as well as a culinary adventure. Minneapolis Oktoberfest (9/10-12): While it's not quite October, it's never too early for authentic German food, polka dancing and imported beer in the "Biergarten." Located near St. Anthony Main, the weather should be perfect to enjoy this local event. http://minneapolisoktoberfest.com/
Rock Bend Folk Festival (9/11-12): In it's twentieth year, this music festival has two stages and near 30 acts performing in it's two day scheduled. Located in St. Peter's historic Minnesota Square Park, this could be a quick weekend getaway or daytrip. http://www.rockbend.org/thisyear.html
