The Home Skillet Truck Brings Modern American Comfort Food to Orange County, CA

Chef Christie Morisoli has worked in restaurant kitchens in Austin, San Francisco, and our own Orange County, CA. She went on to start her own catering company, Lula, in 2009.  She partnered up with her boyfriend, Vinnie Gagliano, to develop a food truck concept. On August 6, 2011, The Home Skillet Truck was born and now feeds the hungry masses looking for the comfort food they crave with a modern twist. They are a free-spirited bunch – Vinnie runs the front of house, order taker/pickup window, and Christie runs the back of the house, cooking and creating wonderful dishes for you to try. I also love the ironing boards used as standing tables for folks to eat and mingle with each other.

Pork Belly Sliders are topped with Serrano aioli, Home Skillet sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese. These sliders are HUGE! The pork belly was tender and juicy. The Serrano aioli was mildly spicy and matched perfectly with the pork. The Swiss was melty, gooey, and enveloped the pork belly so lovingly. Not too crazy for the sauerkraut. The sliders work just fine without it. Thumbs up!

Seared Sea Scallops served with green curry, bell peppers, basil, and jasmine rice. The scallops were seared to perfection, keeping the sweetness of the scallops with a soft, silky texture. The curry has just the right amount of spicy heat, yet creamy and decadent. The rice is gently seasoned and is great to soak up all of the leftover curry sauce. Thumbs up, way up!

The Burger is a grass-fed beef patty topped with bacon, onion jam, St. Agur bleu cheese, arugula, and skillet sauce. The beef patty is awesome! It has just the right fat-to-meat ratio resulting in a succulent burger. The sweet onion jam and salty, creamy bleu cheese work really well together. The arugula adds a green, bitter flavor that ties it all together. The brioche bun is slightly sweet with a spongy texture and has a perfect glaze on the outside. No wonder people have nicknamed it “The Shiny Bun Burger”. Thumbs up, way up!

Crispy Brussels Sprouts is topped with capers, red wine vinaigrette, and herbs. Interesting take on the brussels sprout. The red wine vinaigrette added a little too much tanginess, but you’ll never want just butter again. The caramelization process added a sweetness to the brussels sprouts as well. Thumbs up!

The Home Skillet Truck is all about using local farmers, practicing sustainability, lessening their carbon footprint with every dish, and changing their menu to match the season. Check their schedule! You don’t want to miss them!
