Season 4 of TLC’s “My Strange Addiction” introduces us to 19-year-old Brea, a young woman addicted to eating sand.
Brea admits her addiction makes it to the dinner plate, where she occasionally uses sand as a “seasoning”.
Dipping her tortilla chips in a bowl of sand, Brea explains the enjoyment derived from eating sand covered chips.
“I’ve taken a tortilla chip, dipped them in sand and ate them and it gave the chip the best crunch that I have ever gotten in my entire life,” explains Brea.
Brea began eating sand 5-years ago, after she accidentally got a mouthful at the beach. But Brea’s addiction goes beyond an accidental endeavor, she now eats sand up to six times per day.
Her addiction has also grown beyond the sandbox. She also enjoys gnawing on a nail file when sand isn’t readily available, placing the file between her teeth and chewing on it to get her crunchy fix.
Interestingly, Brea has an affinity to a particular type of sand.
“My favorite sand is actually the sand from the playground or a park,” explains Brea. “I start by taking a handful… and I like take all the big rocks out. It’s natural, it’s straight from the Earth, it’s really good and it’s really crunchy.”
Season 4 of “My Strange Addiction” airs Wednesday’s at 10 p.m. on TLC.
