“Diamonds in the Rough (DITR)…Finding The Spirit In Me Int’l Min. Organization” had our 3rd annual Women Survivor of Abuse Workshop held in Norwalk this past Saturday, Oct. 5th; “Running Into the Light!” RIL #3 turned out to be a powerful explosion of testimonials of overcoming and surviving traumatic abusive relationships, demonstrations, presentations, lessons, fun activities, food, laughter, and intimacy-enjoying and getting to know each other while identifying with the pain, hurts, mistakes, connecting spiritually, and helping each other to realize areas where we need to grow.
The winner of the DITR RIL Artist Award was Tania Moorer aka “Boss Lady” for stepping out the boat the past couple of years and pursuing her dream of stand-up comedy. The winner of the DITR Game was Tisheanna Burton of Stamford, CT. The winner of the Progress Award was Tammie Briscoe (my baby sister) for progress in all areas of her life. Congratulations on your promotion, Master’s Degree, and continuing your walk with the Lord. Also, for your support with ASIB 5: GRACE & as a volunteer for RIL #3. The Pastor Appreciation went to our guest pastor who spoke at the end, Rev Velva Tucker of Bridgeport, CT!!!
New STAR DIAMOND 2013 JOSHUA GANTT, reigning Diamond Twinkle Champion, Aalecia Green, and DITR’S ASIB 5 3RD place winner, Aniya Mullins all ministered and performed! Others on the program who gave of themselves in talent and gifting were Isaac Zellner of NJ, a 7x McDonald’s Gospelfest Winner in Youth Dance. Also, Katrina Atkinson who praised dance, Sheila McCoy of N-His Image who blessed us in song singing, “Love,” while Chucky “Johosephat” Person passed out roses to all the participants. Katrina and Sheila did a comedy debut with me who played “Mother Me Got!” Sheila played, “Sistah’ Bling Bling,” and Katrina played “Sistah Eula Mae Tither” to enact the elderly women in the church, and how “Blind Ole’ Lady Witah’ Cane” transformed herself into an elderly woman who finally got herself a man, the pastor’s son in comedic dress attire and hilariously funny antics along with her fellow sisters in the church.
Also, Jamaine of Church Without Walls in Norwalk; actress and singer, Denise Michelle; Author ML Brooks who gave a testimony along with others who gave their testimony of survival was: Tisheana Burton, Alicia Houslin, Elder Jeanette Gantt of True Vine of Holiness in Bridgeport, CT, and Deborah Bradley, Founder of Basic House in Norwalk, CT. Other’s on the program who did an outstanding job were those who gave presentations, such as: Sue Delaney of Domestic Violence Crisis Center of Norwalk, Trevor “Crow” of WDJZ and the Keeping Connected Show of Wilton, CT who spoke on jealousy, envy, emotional abuse and more. Then it was Beth & Guss of Isreali Krav Maga who gave a dynamic, bomb shell of a presentation displaying self-defense. Moreover, the sensational “Boss Lady,” kept the laughter going from the previous church comedic scene and had people in stitches. lAST BUT NOT LEAST, OUR FIRST HOST, DE BOONE who came on time, and was so patient, smooth, and very sweet in her presenting those on the program-FANTABULOUS JOB!
The environment was warm displaying colors of reds, oranges, and yellow for the fall. I was truly pleased, and thanking the Lord for the creatively express, heart wrenching, funny, and joyous of time knowing that the devil has been defeated once again and we have SURVIVED!
SCRIPTURE READ CAME FROM:
ACTS 9:18-20; “SEEING THE LIGHT WITHOUT HAVING VISION.”
Acts 9 (New International Version)
1 Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. 3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
5 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. 6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
7 The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. 8 Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. 9 For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.
10 In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!”
“Yes, Lord,” he answered.
11 The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. 12 In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”
13 “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem. 14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.”
15 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. 16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”
17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 19 and after taking some food, he regained his strength.
Saul in Damascus and Jerusalem
Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. 20 At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. 21 All those who heard him were astonished and asked, “Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?” 22 Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.
Despite Saul’s hateful and evil actions towards those in the Way (Christianity) and the ways in which he killed with word and deed to destroy God’s people; the Lord FORGAVE HIM, and used him mightily for the kingdom for which (now) Paul suffered much, after receiving the God and going through an encounter with Jesus on his Demascus Road experience where he was blinded physically for 3 days until he saw the Lord, and Ananias laying hands on him to restore his sight. All Saul needed was to see the light (God) and his heart be change because once it took place it says, IMMEDIATELY he began to preach. When you know God has called you don’t allow formalities, people like friends, and family to hold you back from what God has called you to do. Imagine if (now) Paul had waited for an ok to start preaching? Who knows if it would’ve come? Who knows how many would’ve missed that appointed time to hear what he had to share via his messages or writing how it would’ve changed the time of events?
All I know is one encounter with the master was all it took. All I know is God used him more than or just as much as the disciples who had walked with him day and night. All I know is that God made no apologies or asked for Ananias’ permission or anyone else to use Paul for His Glory. And that God is a forgiving God and the first step in the process of healing is acknowledging and accepting that the offense has happened then FORGIVING the perpetrator for victimizing you so that you can TAKE YOUR POWER BACK done by prayer, fasting, and practice over and over again. However, all this needs to be started AFTER GETTING OUT THE SITUATION OR AWAY FROM THE ONE, OR THOSE ABUSING YOU FIRST!
