Movie review: Sexy Evil Genius

Gathered at a bar by a beautiful, and insane, ex-girlfriend they have in common, a group of friends find there may be more to their gathering than simply socializing.

Katee Sackhoff (Nikki), Michelle Trachtenberg (Miranda), Anthony Michael Hall (Mark), Seth Green (Zachary), Harold Perrineau (Marvin), William Baldwin (Bert).

Sexy Evil Genius starts off by jumping straight to the storyline which evolves slowly giving us come character development and more intricate plot setup. From there the film is, at least for a time, a psychological journey of misdirection and manipulation. As things heat up the story takes a more active role as Nikki's insanity is reveal and felt by everyone. The story finishes with an expected but still but somehow surprising ending.

Sackhoff was very good in this one and plays an insane lunatic quite nicely. Trachtenberg, Perrineau, and Baldwin all delivered well. Green also did a great job in this serious role which was a nice surprise as we had expected his involvement to indicate this would be a campy comedy flick, which it wasn't.

Camera work, sets, and backgrounds are good though minimal. Physical effects were also minimal but good. Dialogue drove this film and was well done throughout. Sound and soundtrack were also nicely done.

In the end, Sexy Evil Genius was an enjoyable psychological thriller with good suspense and mystery. The film was also billed as a comedy which makes no sense as there was very little comedy involved.

Those who enjoy a somewhat mild and sedate psychological thriller will enjoy this the most while those hoping for action or comedy will be disappointed.

With some sexuality, foul language, and violence this should be fine for older teens and above.
