Movie review: Movie 43

Charlie is pitching his movie idea to Griffin at the movie studio when things go more than a little bit sideways. Movie 43 is a series of short comedy sketches held together by a thin strand of saliva, an all-star cast, and complete disregard for proper behavior.

Dennis Quaid (Charlie), Greg Kinnear (Griffin), Common (Bob), Charlie Saxton (Jay), Will Sasso (Jerry), Odessa Rae (Danita), Seth MacFarlane (Himself), Mike Meldman (Himself), Hugh Jackman (Davis), Kate Winslet (Beth), Live Schreiber (Robert), Naomi Watts (Samantha), Anna Faris (Vanessa), Kieran Culkin (Neil), Emma Stone (Veronica), Richard Gere (Boss), Kate Bosworth (Arlene), Justin Long (Robin), Jason Sudeikis (Batman), Uma Thurman (Lois Lane), Bobby Cannavale (Superman), Gerard Butler (Leprechaun), Seann Scott (Brian), Halle Berry (Emily).

Movie 43 starts off looking a bit strange before things get rolling and the film actively tries to offend and scare us away. As Charlie is pitching a movie a series of comedy sketches are shown with the implication they are part of the script being pitched. Before long it is obvious they are simply comedy sketches thrown together in a single film, and most are quite funny. Yes the humor is persistently crude but at the same time the film is disturbingly entertaining.

Acting was excellent from just about everyone involved. The roles were uncommon and ridiculous but the all-start cast pulled things together very well and delivered good quality and energy throughout.

Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were okay but who cares. This was about the comedy, the insane situations, and the cast not the sets or backgrounds. Effects were primarily costuming and nicely done. Dialogue was good, campy, and funny while sound and soundtrack were solid.

Overall Movie 43 is either going to entertain you, or offend you. If you are easily offended this one is definitely not for you.

With plenty of strong pervasive crude and sexual content, foul language and dialogue, graphic nudity, violence, and drug use save this one for adults and above.
