Jack Reacher is an ex-military cop who has become a crack investigator. Called by an elite sniper charged with killing 5 people, Jack teams up with a sexy defense lawyer to investigate the charges, hoping it will finally put an end to the sniper. But before long Jack is finding answers he didn't expect.
Tom Cruise (Jack Reacher), Rosamund Pike (Helen), Richard Jenkins (Rodin), David Oyelowo (Emerson), Werner Herzog (The Zec), Jai Courtney (Charlie), Robert Duvall (Cash), Vladimir Sizov (Vlad), Joseph Sikora (Barr).
Jack Reacher starts off looking a lot like a military film before a more civilian plot begins to form. Barr is accused of killing 5 people, arrested, and questioned by police where his only words are to ask for Jack Reacher. But when Jack shows up it isn't to defend Barr, it is to bury him. From there the plot takes some twists and turns that aren't all that unique but with some decent action, things move along well and stay fairly interesting to the end.
Acting was good here, but not great. Cruise appeared to be ridiculously full of himself and the film seemed to be focused on making him an almost super-human action hero. Pike played against Cruise well and can definitely bring some energy to the screen when she feels the urge. Jenkins, Duvall, Sizov and the remainder of the supporting cast were solid.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were all nicely done with good quality and detail. Effects and stunt work were good, though it was obvious Cruise was the centerpiece once again. Dialogue was decent and added to the storyline. Sound and soundtrack were both good.
Overall Jack Reacher is a decent Action Thriller despite a somewhat uninspired plot that could have used more substance or diversion. Cruise or action fans will likely enjoy this one.
With loads of violence, some foul language and drug use, this should be fine for teens and above.
Jack Reacher is no longer showing in any Littleton, Colorado movie theatres.
