What is better than a serial killer movie? One with a twist! And, another twist. And another! Frailty begins in a fairly straightforward manner before taking a sharp turn off the road of reality into an incredibly twisted and warped world. The story, while being an extremely interesting crime thriller with some lovely twists and turns, spends a lot of time looking like a primer on how to turn your children into serial killers. The film completes with a nice ending that does a good job of wrapping up the loose ends.
Acting was well done in this one. Paxton, in addition to this being his directorial debut, delivered wonderfully as the twisted and warped father. McConaughey fit his role well and presented nicely. O'Leary and Sumpter were incredible given their ages and the film wouldn't have been the same without them. The remainder of the cast was solid with good delivery.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were well done contributing to the solid feel of the film. Physical effects were good without letting gore or violence take over the film. Dialogue was suitably intricate and was very good as the foundation for the film. Sound and soundtrack were both solidly done.
Overall Frailty is a very enjoyable crime thriller with aspects drama, suspense, serial killers, and twisted morality. Fans of a solid serial killer story will enjoy this the most.
With violence and some foul language, save this for older teens and above. This one could be somewhat disturbing for younger viewers so be warned.
Frailty is no longer showing in any Littleton, Colorado movie theatres.
