Monumentour rolled through Summerfest in Milwaukee on Saturday, July 5. The co-headline tour features Paramore and Fall Out Boy with New Politics opening the show. Fans packed into the Marcus Amphitheater to catch an energetic trifecta of performances laced with pyrotechnics, streamers and solid musicianship.

While the amphitheater drew a decidedly younger crowd, other options included country act Thompson Square at BMO Harris Pavilion, rapper Matisyahu, alt-rockers Phantogram, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, Ingrid Michaelson and The Crystal Method.

Both Paramore and Fall Out Boy are touring on chart-topping music, "Paramore" and "Save Rock and Roll," respectively, and are coming off rifts. Paramore departed with the Farro brothers in 2011 and Fall Out Boy resumed activity after a hiatus that saw the respective members struggle with their side-projects. Saturday's show suggested that both bands are clearly on top of their game and were well received by their fans.

Hayley Williams can work a crowd of any size and the Paramore vocalist had no problem generating electricity within the confines of the Marcus. An abundance of explosions sent streamers as far as the lawn, ensuring everybody was involved in the show. From the opening "Still Into You" to the closing bows following "Ain't It Fun," Williams remained buoyed by the crowd's exuberance.

An explosion of pyro announced the arrival of Fall Out Boy a little before 10 p.m. Wisconsin native Andy Hurley climbed behind the drum kit while the other three members were lifted on a riser at the rear of the stage. They erupted into "Phoenix" from the new album while bursts of fire shot from the rear of the stage.

The 11-day Summerfest music festival concludes on Sunday with Usher performing his only scheduled summer performance at the Marcus Amphitheater. Headliners on the other ground's stages will include Jake Bugg, Melissa Etheridge, Cole Swindell, Cheap Trick, Ismael Miranda and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
