This year Gallo Restaurant in Patchogue will be celebrating ten years of offering up fine Colombian fare to hungry Main Street diners. Gallo has found success in its own niche in one of Long Island’s premier dining hotspots for its affordably great food, friendly staff and wonderful atmosphere. Dining at Gallo restaurant is always a satisfying experience.
Gallo Restaurant is located on the western end of the Main Street restaurant district of Patchogue, just a few doors down from the Patchogue Theater. It first opened in 2002 as Gallo Tropical, or “Tropical Rooster,” which put a spin on the name of a popular chain of Latin American restaurants called Pollo Tropical (“Tropical Chicken”). The eatery has been proudly serving the finest in authentic “comida Colombiana,” or “Colombian food,” to its clientele ever since.
For those who are not familiar with Colombian cuisine, it is not all that different than other Latin American fare, with popular meat dishes like steak, rotisserie chicken, and pork and scrumptious sides like rice, beans, and plantains. Of course, there are unique spins on the flavor, and the restaurant’s tangy green Colombian condiment, served with every meal, is spectacular.
Other, more familiar Latin American dishes are also served at Gallo, such as fajitas, quesadillas, and nachos, and an array of wraps is available as well for lunchtime, or just a lighter dinner meal. The restaurant’s spin on the popular Cuban sandwich is satisfyingly delicious. The portions on entrees are generous and the prices are very reasonable. One would be hard pressed to leave Gallo unsatisfied.
The atmosphere at Gallo is pleasant, as well, with two distinct rooms for different types of dining experiences. To the left is the bar area, which is decidedly buzzing with activity, and to the right is a cozy dining area, beautifully decorated in Spanish tile and complete with faux fireplace for ambience. In the warmer months, diners can enjoy their meals al fresco, as the storefront on this side of the eatery opens up for fresh air dining.
All in all, Gallo Restaurant offers a fine and unique restaurant experience. If you find yourself in the Patchogue area and are you’re hungry for some great food at a great price, check it out. You’ll be glad you did!
