Scoot over frozen yogurt, there’s a new cold dessert in town! Hot summer days mean you want something cold, refreshing and delicious. For those of you who are looking for a fat-free, guilt-free and dairy free treat (unless you get condensed milk on it) there is something perfect for each of you out there. It’s called Fluff Ice and it’s in Monterey Park for all to enjoy.
What the heck is fluff ice? It’s shaved ice that has gone through a bit of gastronomic magic to give it those delicious vibrant flavors and allowing it to have its creamy consistency when it is shaved. This creamy texture makes it feel more like sorbet on your tongue. You can pick from a variety of flavors such as peach, strawberry, green tea or chocolate just to name a few. If you’re not sure what to get, ask for a sample so you know exactly what the flavors taste like. You can even pick two flavors and don’t have to pay extra! Then you pick your favorite accompaniments, perhaps a generous drizzling of condensed milk, which is perfect with the original flavor and you get two toppings of your choice. Some of these topping could be anything from fresh strawberries, little mochi balls, lychee jelly or crushed nuts. Now remember this dessert is fat-free and guilt-free when you are getting just the beautifully shaved Fluff, but if you get lots of toppings, choose wisely to keep your calorie count down!
Now this type of shaved ice has actually been around for quite some time, but was only available in Taiwan, then it did become available at a restaurant out in Rowland Heights, but the serving sizes are GINORMOUS and you need a small crew to help you eat it all. The fabulous thing about Fluff Ice is that the owners, Annie Tran, Nick Huang, David Wang and Matthew Hui wanted each one of you to come in and experience your very own individualized Fluff Ice creation.
Each one of these owners, who by the way are all under 25 years of age, and all Mark Keppel Alum, they love their community which they all have strong ties to and want to give back to it through various charitable events and organizations. Many of their hires are students from Mark Keppel and this youthful store is popular amongst people of all ages looking for a delicious cool treat to beat the heat.
Fluff Ice is centrally located in Monterey Park and is extremely accessible to anyone coming from either the West side or East side. It is right off the 10 Freeway, Atlantic Blvd exit. So jump in your cars and come get your bowl of Fluff!
