Flavor Cupcakery, owned by Shelley Stannard in Bel Air, won Food Network’s popular television show, Cupcake Wars. Stannard along with Lead Pastry Chef, Jason Hisley, competed against other talented teams of bakers from around the country before being named winner based on their unique flavors, taste, decoration and presentation.
“Since day one, our customers have always believed in us and dreamed of seeing their local Cupcakery in the national spotlight on Cupcake Wars.” says owner, Shelley Stannard. “Believe me, they would ask us all the time! This win is the best way to give back to them for their consistent encouragement and support.”
Food Network’s Cupcake Wars episode featuring Flavor Cupcakery as the competition winner aired December 4 at 8:00 p.m. on Food Network and will repeat on the network throughout the week of December 5. Flavor Cupcakery hosted a Viewing Party on Sunday night at Dark Horse Saloon in Bel Air with 200 of its customers to reveal the big win and will feature its competition-winning flavors all week at the bakery’s location in Bel Air.
Each episode of Cupcake Wars features four of the country’s top cupcake bakers, facing off through three elimination challenges, including a presentation of 1,000 cupcakes each, leaving only one as the winner. Each Cupcake Wars winner receives a prize, along with the opportunity to showcase their cupcakes at a special event. Flavor Cupcakery’s winning cupcakes were served at the opening night party for New York City Ballet’s performance of “The Nutcracker,” Thanksgiving weekend in New York City.
Now that Flavor Cupcakery has earned a national nod, their next challenge is to open a new location in Cockeysville in 2012. “Our customers travel from around the Baltimore Metro for our cupcakes and cakes,” says Stannard. “A second location will allow us to better serve our existing customers and allow us to treat new neighbors as well.”
