Is environmentalism moving away from global warming?

As the headline on today's Drudge Report suggests, the environmentalist movement may be shifting away from global warming as the justification for their proposed restrictions on the free market. Per the Guardian: "The economic case for global action to stop the destruction of the natural world is even more powerful than the argument for tackling climate change, a major report for the United Nations will declare this summer." The report is also expected to focus on protecting species as a greater reason for environmental legislation.

Of course, a skeptic might point out that this shift in justifications was necessitated by the collapsing scientific argument for global warming following the East Anglia University email scandal earlier this year. A skeptic might also point out that if you have to constantly change the justification for your policy initiatives because your old reasons keep getting discredited, it might be time to rethink those policies. Then again, it wouldn't be the first time someone has noticed that many so-called environmentalists are motivated more by a religious zeal than by science and facts.

Something tells me Matt Drudge is not the best evaluator of what environmentalists are actually up. Read the Factcheck.org article on climategate. The charges against scientists are all BS.

Texans in general, being a bunch of illiterate inbred socially conservative republican retards, aren't in a position to lecture anyone about science.

Isn't it possible that environmentalists who were opposed to deforestation are still opposed to deforestation?

Or that environmentalists who want to eliminate the dead zones in the Gulf of Mexico want to re-establish the ecosystem now being plagued by the oil spill?

Why is it that anyone who wants to clean up the environment is now some kind of fraud because of stolen e-mails?

Answer: People like to burn oil even if it means carpet-bombing women and children in Iraq. These same people could care less about the Gulf fishing grounds or the Northwest forests, so they convert all arguments to CO2 and then laugh at the CO2 science.

There is no movement in environmentalists who want to change our polluting ways...

It must be hard to look the other way as the oil stains your beaches... what a joke you've become.

Environmentalist should indeed leave the AGW-myth behind, because it will make the rich countries pour. The best thing for any environment is rich people because they want and will pay for a clean environment. And probably the environment-organizations are feeling it in their purses, since people start thinking about whether or not to support organizations that support AGW. Money talks. It always has and always will. Environment-organizations need people who pay. And people don't donate if they don't like the points of view of the recipient.

I winder what Drudge will say when we begin to really feel the effects of climate change- changes that dislocate people-cause human suffering on a scale never seen historically, economic havoc- flooding of coastal cities- drought, water scarcity, killer heat waves and agricultural belts shifting- and no polar ice cap in the summer- and a Greenland ice cap gone

I wonder if the anti science- pro special interests who don;t give a hoot about this planet or its human and animal inhabitant will still be here at examiner- saying climate change is a hoax

that time people is not far down the road.

THE GLOBAL WARMING HOAX IS DEAD!
It`s been exposed as nothing more then a bunch of LIES by government funded pseudo-scientists and hell-bent socialists.

Fairly hilarious seeing a journalist (anti-science) climate denier discuss how scientists avoid the facts.

The alarmists will overstep credibility again, this time regarding "species endangerment", using non peer reviewed propaganda (they already are). If you have no proof you must create scary stories to sway the public, but this time I doubt we will be swayed.

Where are the environmentalists who say: You know what? This phoney global warming scare is taking focus away from real enviro-issues and has set our movement back years. You don't hear any because having a crisis is what environmentalism is all about. Without crisis the environmental movement atrophies because there is no tool for political power.

Hence, there is never a backward step by greenies to admit they were wrong on global warming because crisis is a necessary ingredient for the movement. If they are exposed as fakes on one crisis they must find another one to replace it. Hence oil spills; ocean acidification; too much human consumption, etc, etc.

True environmentalists jumped the global warming ship to become a sceptic, recognising that global warming is a gross distraction from real environmental concerns. This causes me to suspect the intentions of commenters on this thread still supporting the AGW scare. What are they really up to?
