Temporary Resume

Temp agencies have a distinct purpose in the job market, fill voids for the companies they recruit for. There a few ways to help make the most of your temp resume.

Know your field

Be clear about the position you are looking for. Once you have conveyed the job you want, provide a resume to match. The agency may call you with available positions outside of what you are looking for. Don’t be quick to tell them no. Even if you do not plan to take the job, the interview is great practice.

Know your skills

Many agencies only recruit for specific skills or job fields. Do your research and pick your agency wisely. Don’t think you have to be exclusive. You can have your resume with several agencies, provided you can keep track of them.

Know what works

Be wary when an agency tells you to use a revised resume for an interview. It is normal for an agency to manipulate your resume to make you look promising to the prospective company. Look over the information they provided. If you do not think their version of your resume will help you land the job, follow your instinct. The last thing you want is to look ill prepared on paper.

Temp agencies are a great way to get a fast job and build a variety of skills. Understand they do not work for you and their client is there main concern. Use them to help extend your job search. Know the position you are looking for, the skills you have to offer and how to market those skills. Making those rules your cornerstone will make you an ideal temporary worker.
