Getting out of the church box and into this challenge

Think out of your church box

I know the drill. Give something a new title, then slap a verse or two of scripture on it and call it a program for everyone. I’m not sold on this One Month to Live.

Good!
I don’t like programs that look like the flavor of the month. I approach most things that offer a new way of seeing the world or of living a full life or of getting something that seems to be available to everyone with just a little skepticism.
What? Preachers can be skeptical too?
Perhaps a better term would be inquisitive. Much like when Paul brought the good news to Berea, the people there tested what he had to say against the scriptures known to them; we too should ask, is this a worthwhile endeavor?
I can tell you what the right answer is. That answer is no. This is not a worthwhile endeavor if you just want to check the blocks, you know—the been there, done that mindless journey through another program.
But if you will commit to examining the premise of this provocative program, then this is absolutely worthwhile. Whether you commit to read the book as a day-to-day experience or just keep up with the daily provocations provided here; no one could walk away from a month’s worth of self-examination based on the premise of only having a month to live without receiving some core level revelation.
Get out of the church box for this one. Don’t limit your answers to ‘church stuff.’ Get a real gut-level mindset for this period and discover what’s really important to you.
Does that mean that we won’t look at what God’s word has to say?
No. We will look and listen and probably struggle in some areas. Being this honest with ourselves may be new territory.   We will see what God says and then ask ourselves even more provocative questions.

Let's start by not trying to fit all of our answers into a specific scripture, doctrine, or church comfort zone.  Let's be confident enough in our faith that we can do some real exploring!
