The Insanity of the Electric Daisy Carnival

We here in Las Vegas will soon play host to something called the "Electric Daisy Carnival".  For those who have not been paying attention, this event is an extravaganza which is designed to lure young people in to a place where they will dance all night long - over a three ngiht period - to loud, bizarre music, fueled by various drugs and other stimulants.  Over the years tragedy has been common:  the most recent Daisy event, in Dallas on June 19th, resulted in 1 kid dying and 25-30 others being hospitalized.  The Review-Journal has this headline for our event: "Rave Expected to Keep Medics Busy".  This event was kicked out of Los Angeles because of all the troubles it brings.

So, why are we having it here?  Why on earth would we want to have an event which is guaranteed to do harm to those who attend it?  This isn't a fee speech issue - I have no problem with these people putting out their "music".  But to allow them to gather together 80,000 youngsters per night over a three night period for an event which is scheduled to go on from dusk til dawn is grossly irresponsible.  You can't have an event like that and have anything good come out of it.  There will be drugs; there will be irresponsible young people; there will be a break down of any moral code against sex and violence.  A two hour event - heck, even a four hour event - that can just be some good, clean fun.  But that is not what we're allowing.  We're offering the youth of Nevada up on a platter and telling the purveyors of sex and drugs, "here are our sons and daughters, please abuse them".

Are there any adults left?  Do we have anyone in any position of authority who will think for a moment?  Or are we just too cowardly?  When this event was proposed, someone should have immediately pointed out what was wrong with it and demanded changes.  But no one did; the show will go on...and we'll have fed the fires of Moloch a few more of our children.
