Zombie Ants - a mind control fungus takes over ant's brain (picture)

Just like something out of a science fiction movie, a zombie ant discovery has the science community buzzing. This zombie ant literally has it’s body taken over by a fungus and it uses the zombie ant as transportation for finding a new home for spawning.

The zombie ant has a plant growing out of its head, which is a type of fungus that gets into the ants head as a spore. The fungus takes over the ant’s brain and eventually is in charge of where this ant goes. The fungus somehow directs the ant to an area that is conducive for more of this fungus to grow. Once it gets to the place, the fungus kills the zombie ant and the fungus has a new breeding ground to spread its spores, according to “National Geographic.”

It is the fungus that is also an amazing find. It takes over the brain of another living thing. The fungus turns the ant into a zombie. It is just a piece of transportation for the fungus once it takes over control of its brain.

The zombie ant was discovered in Brazil’s rain forest.
