My friend Xanthippa at Xanthippa's Chamberpot brought my attention to this a little while back, and since I'm only now getting back into the swing of things I thought it would be the best place to start.
The Individual Rights Party of British Columbia is one of the province's latest in a long list of small parties on the fringes of mainstream politics - not that this is necessarily a mark against them. Here's the party in its own words:
The Individual Rights Party of British Columbia is a new party with a great idea: human freedom is based on individual rights.
We believe the rights to life, liberty, property, privacy, self-expression and stability are the basic building blocks of society. With them we are free men and women; without them we can be pushed and pulled by elites like a flock of sheep. The Individual Rights believes Canada is facing an existential crisis. It isn’t reproducing itself, it’s bankrupting future generations and it no longer seems to know the difference between right and wrong. We’d like to change that.We have a vision of a safe, secure, prosperous and happy country. Our primary purpose is to field candidates for election to the Legislative Assembly. And we’d like you to join us to make that happen!
Among the party's policies are the following:
Child Rights Children have rights, including the right to be raised by both their biological parents and the right to a propaganda-free education.
Lower TaxesGovernment spending is out of control. We have proposals to cut the cost of government and lower your taxes.ClimateWe do not believe in Anthropogenic Global Warming and do not support carbon taxes or carbon trading. We do support fossil fuel electricity generation.Free SpeechWe believe the BC Human Rights Code and its enforcement arm, the BC Human Rights Tribunal, run counter to natural justice and should be abolished.ImmigrationWe believe mass immigration to Canada should be curtailed and the population stabilized through domestic reproduction.IslamWe believe Islam should be reclassified as a political movement since it wants to change Canadian law.
