During an interview with Bloomberg's Al Hunt, South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint said he would find it troublesome if the country elected an openly gay president.
"It would be bothersome to me personally because I consider it immoral," DeMint said during the interview. When the issue of gay marriage came up, DeMint did not hold back from denouncing the notion.
"Marriage is a religious institution. The federal government has no business redefining what it is. Governments should not be in the business of promoting a behavior that's proven to be destructive to our society."
These comments are not surprising coming from a man who is described as the face of the Republican purity movement. His socially conservative stances were highlighted during a 2004 interview with Meet The Press. The Senator had expressed dismay toward hiring openly gay teachers in his state's public schools.
DeMint, along with most social conservatives, demonstrate irrationality when they make arguments based on their religious beliefs. What does sexuality have to do with a person's ability to perform his or her job? Does a straight teacher perform any better than a gay teacher? Can a single conservative refer to a study that indicates that homosexuals have some sort of mental disability that hinders their job performance? Of course not.
DeMint also resorts to the classic Republican move by spreading anti-gay propaganda with absolutely no legitimacy or fact. "Governments should not be in the business of promoting a behavior that's proven to be destructive to our society." WHAT? Can he please share a single shred of unbiased "proof" to back this claim up?
A few weeks ago I wrote an article about how politicians in Uganda are considering legislation that would impose the death penalty on homosexuals. The bill is sponsored by David Bahati, who is spreading anti-gay propaganda and telling the people of Uganda that homosexuals are “recruiting” school children. Obviously, this is something that Bahati made up in an effort to gain support for the bill. DeMint is basically doing the same thing.

Ironically, one of the Republican consultants in South Carolina pushing Demint's stock is named Gay Suber.
I don't know why people have the urge to control other peoples lives. Are people really this shallow and unsatisfied with their own life that they have to step on the shoes of others?

We already had a gay president, James Buchanan was known as "Aunt Fancy" and lived with former senator Rufus King who was referred to as his wife and called "Miss Nancy". Of course, people didn't come out of the closet then, but that was about as open as you could get at the time.

My Good Gawd, Kasparian, have you really not been following the atrocities going on in Massachusetts? Are you REALLY so naive as to not know the gay activists are pushing to homodoctrinate kids at an early enough age they lack the coping skills to effectively judge right from wrong?
If this is actually the case, then you are in the wrong profession and should NOT be writing to a public forum.

Your intelligence is what matters. I don't think it was intentional and you have every liberty to wear what ever you want but that distracts from your intelligence. you don't need distraction when you are trying to make some sense isn't it?. If I offended you I am sorry but it was a honest opinion. Any way did any of your pals or Cenk does some work on Jiddu Krishnamurthy's philosophy. There is a mountain of evidence that gay behavior is highly destructive to individuals and hence, to society. A reporter would look for that evidence, which is abundantly available on the Internet, before denouncing another's opinion. In fact, the entire feminist/gay/sexual liberation movement has robbed more children of a father in the home than at any other time in American history, with predictable and abundantly documented results -- more school violence, more school failure, more broken homes, more welfare, more children living in poverty, more youth crime and more youths in jail. It's not gayness or gays living together that "harms" heterosexuals; it is the false statistics upon which the gay movement has been based, the false statistics routinely cited by gays to cover up the much higher rates of social disfunction among their numbers, and the incessant demands of the gay lobby to use marriage as a wedge issue to eliminate and criminalize all sexual morality.

Gay couples who DO adopt kids produce kids that are just as fit for society, if not more so.
