It is difficult to comprehend why BP has been allowed to run the show at the Macondo well leak, but they appear to be doing just that, particularly when it comes to the amount of Corexit 9500 they are using.
Still, the continued use of Corexit is only part of the BP equation. Add to that, control of the media and Gulf oil spill area law enforcement, and you have the most blatant example of the corporate take over of America this country has ever seen. Not only has BP seized control of the First Amendment, they are laughing in the face of the US Environmental Protection Agency. The horror of it all is - the president and Congress are letting them get away with it.
No one knows for sure just yet how many people may die as a direct result of this oil spill disaster, but the official body count so far, is thirteen; eleven the night the Deepwater Horizon exploded, and two clean up workers in June.
Growing evidence of BP’s self-serving interests
Back on May 25th, the US Environmental Protection Agency told BP that they were using too much of the chemical disbursant, Corexit 9500 on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Concerns over the long-term environmental consequences were raising red flags throughout the scientific community. Terms like ‘turning the Gulf of Mexico into a science experiment’ has passied more than one biologists’ lips. But BP still has not complied and this is July.
One entity is holding the reins on the outcome of this cataclysmic event, which is almost certain to change thousands, if not millions of American lives for an unknown number of years to come. That entity is not the US government, it’s a foreign based, multi-national corporation. To use a phrase from the 1975 movie classic, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, “ Well, I didn’t vote for them.”
Where has the First Amendment gone?
The New York Times reports, “A pilot wanted to take a photographer from The Times-Picayune of New Orleans to snap photographs of the oil slicks blackening the water. The response from a BP contractor who answered the phone late last month at the command center was swift and absolute: Permission denied. “
The report adds, “Last week, Senator Bill Nelson, Democrat of Florida, tried to bring a small group of journalists with him on a trip he was taking through the gulf on a Coast Guard vessel. Mr. Nelson’s office said the Coast Guard agreed to accommodate the reporters and camera operators. But at about 10 p.m. on the evening before the trip, someone from the Department of Homeland Security’s legislative affairs office called the senator’s office to tell them that no journalists would be allowed. “
CNN has been denied access to bird rehabilitation facilities, MSNBC and Reuters have also reported being blocked from gathering news; the list goes on. And no one from the United States government seems to have the will to defend our own constitution. That, my fellow Americans, begs the biggest question of all - why?
Perhaps the people of this country know why, but are afraid to admit it. We lost control of our representative government long ago and now we are paying the price. Without unified leadership in a time of crisis and the banishment of First Amendment, there is no America.

Your article is incorrect. BP is NOT running the show, according to BP. Obama and homeland Security, with Thad Allen as spokeshole is running the show.. BP is just paying for everything. Do you really believe a foreign company can run the show in the US...? Call BP and find out.
What are these guys trying to hide? BP and our government working together have gone to great lengths to restrict access to the Gulf oil spill site, including photos of oil slick birds. Andersen Cooper (great job of reporting)said that reporters can't get closer than 65 feet to photograph any BP controlled site without the threat of a $40,000 fine and a Class D felony. Maryann, keep reporting this news. We need to know what's gonig on.

well, welcome to modern day America! LBJ overthrew this democracy, and we've yet to take it back. Big corporations working with the media can influence public opinion to elect whoever they want, guaranteeing election results within a 1/2 percent. Why do you think this country is so divided? Why do you think the media has a liberal slant when Republicans are in charge, and a conservative slant when Democrats are in charge? They are working tirelessly to make sure our populace is divided down the middle, so we'll be too busy fighting each other to stop and recognize who the real enemy is. The only way to sustain a totalitarian society is to fool the populace into thinking they are free.
