News is trickling out that yesterday Joe Johnson agreed to a new 6 year, $119 million contract with the Atlanta Hawks.
Johnson joined the Hawks in 2005 with an offer of $70 million.
The $119 million is reportedly far higher than any other team was able to offer. July 8th is scheduled for the official contract signing.
Johnson, an Arkansan, played for the Arkansas Razorbacks before joining the Boston Celtics. He was traded to the Phoenix Suns in 2002 and in 2005, after becoming a free agent, requested a spot with the Hawks. In 2006 he played for the US National team in the FIBA World Championship.
Johnson's agent, Arn Tellem, released the news yesterday. He said Johnson's "priorities are his family, his friends and his game" and that he's very happy to be staying in Atlanta, where winning "would be more meaningful."
