Controversial Palin target map no longer on website (The View Speaks Out)

When Sarah Palin featured a target map with cross hairs over congressional districts as targets last March, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords who remains in critical condition after being shot at point blank range by an assassin, spoke out against the map which disturbed her at the time of the posting.

“We’re on Sarah Palin’s targeted list,” Ms. Giffords said last March. “But the thing is the way that she has it depicted has the cross hairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they’ve got to realize there’s consequences to that.”

Sarah Palin has taken the target map off of her Web site and has posted a statement.

“My sincere condolences are offered to the family of Representative Gabrielle Giffords and the other victims of today’s tragic shooting in Arizona. On behalf of Todd and my family, we all pray for the victims and their families, and for peace and justice.”

Giffords was one of the elected officials that Palin listed on the map, which show a geographical representation of each with a cross hair. At the top it says, "It's time to take a stand."

To date Palin still has not removed the controversial target list map from her Facebook page posted in March.

A Palin staffer defended the graphic saying, “We never ever, ever intended it to be gun sights . . . it was simply crosshairs like you’d see on maps.”

I hope this horrible incident kills her political career, this is a warning of the path republicans are bringing us down.

I believe that the nasty rhetoric of Sarah Palin, the Congressional "Right," and the Tea Party movement ARE responsible for the shooting in Arizona. DUH...it was bound to happen! There were areas in the country where posters were made with Crosshairs on Democratic candidates....what's the surprise that someone (crazy or not) would take that as a sign that it's open season on Democratic candidates and Congresspeople. Shame on you Sarah Palin! Your divisive remarks insinuate that only the Right and you know what's best for the country. Anyone who is not in your mold is not a patriot. Talk about disgusting! And the John Boehner announces, without any shame, that his goal will be to obstruct President Obama....wouldn't you guess that he should have said his goal is to aid the American people! NO.....get the Democrats!
Shame on the Republican party, Shame on Sarah Palin, Shame on John Boehner.

The Human Psyche is always frail and when it's flames are fanned by the likes of Sarah Palin by expressions such as "Lock and Reload" and "Gun Site Maps", the results are indiscriminate violence.
In most countries politicians like that they would be in prison or at the lunatic asylum.

  • Haven't there ever been assassinations of and assassination attempts on Republican politicians?

Yes, there have been many assassinations and assassination attempts on Republicans. Martin Luther King Jr., John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, and Medgar Evers, were all Republicans.

This is the reason why free speech does not give the left the right to target those who try to protect those who are less fortunate. or gay and minorities. This is the same inflame effect that Glen Beck, Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh have on those who can think for themselves and are full of hate for the rest of us.

She has blood on her hands !!! Someone has to be held responsible for inciting violence.

  • She was only responding to provocation from the left. Are they going to turn over a new leaf now? Revolution is the ultimate form of violence and revolution is the ultimate aim of the left.

Typical of the left: blame the political opposition and then convert the real perpetrator into a victim. Mere political opportunism.
There is absolutely no evidence that Sara Palin's target analogy or talk radio had anything to do with the shootings. Loughner was in his own little world, period.
I am under no illusion that reason and the facts will stop the hate talk and political bull from the left.
