The Horizon Christian boys basketball team stormed out of the gates on Friday night in its home game against Amity taking the early lead and never being challenged, in breezing by the visiting Warriors, 88-52. Horizon sophomore wing, Michael Loomis, who had been struggling to find his shooting touch, had the stroke working Friday night. Loomis connected on five of his six three point shot attempts in netting a Game high 27 points for the Hawks. He scored 16 of his points in the first half, helping build a
27 point lead by halftime, 45-18.
Another sophomore wing, Wyatt Houston had a great shooting night as well, scoring 18 points, 11 of those in the first half. Junior point guard Jordan Tebbutt and Sophomore Calvin Anderson added 13 and 11 points respectively. Tebbutt nearly recorded a triple double in the game collecting nine rebounds and dishing out nine assists to go along with his 13 points, in just over 16 minutes of playing time.
The Hawks as a team were 55-percent shooting from the field and totaled 20 assists on 33 made baskets. Horizon Christian not only shot the ball well but got in the Warriors’ grill, to steal the ball 17 times leading to 22 Amity turnovers. The Hawks held the Warriors below 40-percent shooting for the game.
Horizon Christian increased their lead to over 40 points in the third quarter outscoring Amity 30-15, to take a 75-33 lead into the final quarter. Loomis paced the Hawk scorers in the third quarter with 11 points in that eight minute period. Houston added seven points in the frame, while Tebbutt scored four points.
The top-ranked Hawks improve to 7-0 in West Valley League play and 14-3 on the season. They’re only losses of the season came against higher competition. They remain unbeaten against 3A teams this season at 8-0. Horizon Christian will host Sheridan on Tuesday night (Jan. 25) at 7:30pm.
