Tensions have flared between both China and India militaries along their disputed 2,175 mile-long border, with both sides alleging more frequent troop incursions in recent weeks. China is upset when the Indian prime minister recently visit the disputed region. China considers an Indian-occupied piece of it’s own Tibetan Autonomous Region, has added flames to the fire.
China of course already deeply resents the fact that the top Tibetan leader, and several hundred thousand exiled Tibetans, are allowed to reside in India.
India’s Maoist rebels are now present in 20 states and have evolved into a potent and lethal insurgency. In the last four years, the Maoists have killed more than 900 Indian security officers. Indian leaders are now preparing to deploy nearly 70,000 paramilitary officers to hunt down the guerrillas. The Maoists, however, do not want to secede or be absorbed. Their goal is to topple the system.
India’s rapid economic growth has made it an emerging global power but also deepened stark inequalities in society. Maoists accuse the government of trying to push tribal groups off their land to gain access to raw materials and have sabotaged roads, bridges and even an energy pipeline.
India is preparing the military for possible war with China and Pakistan. India and Russia have agreed two military pacts, including a 10-year deal on weapons, aircraft, and maintenance contracts potentially worth at least $5 billion, Indian defense officials said. India plans to spend $30 billion over the next five years to buy modern weapons systems and attack planes.
The agreement will certainly help as Russia needs a market and India needs a strategic reassurance to sort out relations that were going sour. India also wants to use the renewed focus on Russia as a counterweight to China, while a strong presence in South Asia could help Moscow keep an eye on China. India fears China is trying to encircle it as they jostle for resources and global influence.
China is a greater anxiety for Russia in the long run and politically it is desirable for India to strengthen relations with Russia
China has boosted military spending by more than 10 percent annually for almost two decades, and the official figure of $71 billion this year is thought by many analysts to represent only a portion of total defense spending. China announced plans to boost military spending by 14.9 percent this year, maintaining a longtime trend of annual double-digit percentage increases that have stirred concern in Washington and among Beijing's neighbors.

China and Pakistan support terrorists in India
Um, yeah, countries tend to prepare themselves for war with rivals. This is pretty basic stuff.
China and India have taken a vituperative war of words and diplomatic barbs to an unusual level of tension in recent days, prompting fears that the traditional rivalry between the two Asian giants could spin out of control.
"The most urgent present job for both sides is crisis management," says Han Hua, an expert on South Asia at Peking University. "I don't think either government wants the situation to go further downhill."
The recent angry exchanges were prompted by a decades-old border dispute over which the two countries went to war in 1962, and which has proved impervious to 13 rounds of negotiations since.
But deeper resentments lie behind the spat, says Shen Dingli, deputy head of China's South Asia Research Institute. "The structural problem is leadership," he argues. "The question is who leads in Asia?"

MODERN INDIA, CHINA and Pakistan have been locked in a struggle for land and influence for half a century. Today, the most serious threat to peace on the troubled Subcontinent would be a first strike by any of the players against the others' nuclear forces.

The United States policies on Pakistan and China are harming India's security interests, the Hindustan Times quoted former Indian national security adviser Brajesh Mishra as saying on Saturday.
While China is supporting Pakistans military for reasons well known, Indias friend the US, has also been pursuing policies for the past eight years which have the same adverse impact on India, he said at the HT Leadership Summit.
Mishra called for raising the level of police infrastructure in India and pointed to Chinas strident approach on Arunachal Pradesh for the past two years.
The situation has changed in the last two years. India has fought many wars, but two fronts were never simultaneously active in the past. In the next five years, however, I will not rule out that possibility (of China and Pakistan opening fronts against India), he warned.

India's identity is that all religions and communities co-exist in harmony. Our neighbour wants to weaken this strength of ours but they do not know that we can give a befitting reply to their every design," Sonia said at a public rally in Silavassi, in an obvious reference to Pakistan.
There is a solution. India Most of the oil sands of Canada are located in three major deposits in northern Alberta. These are the Athabasca-Wabiskaw oil sands of north northeastern Alberta, the Cold Lake deposits of east northeastern Alberta, and the Peace River deposits of northwestern Alberta. Between them they cover over 140,000 square kilometres (54,000 sq mi) - an area larger than England - and hold proven reserves of 1.75 trillion barrels (280×10^9 m3) of bitumen in place. ]
The tar sands are mined with giant excavators that have to remove the overburden to get at the deposits. The environmental concerns are therefore dire as the land and ecology recover much more slowly in this cold north than warmer climes. It is also mostly in unpopulated virgin land and therefore sensitive to human activiti
Pakistan has been in illegal occupation of parts of the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir since 1947. The Chinese side is fully aware of India's position and our concerns are about Chinese activities in Pakistan occupied Kashmir," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash said in a statement.
"We hope that the Chinese side will take a long-term view of India-China relations and cease such activities in areas illegally occupied by Pakistan," he said.
The Chinese President had, during a meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani yesterday, outlined a major project to upgrade the Karakoram highway connecting the two countries overland and Chinese help in the Neelum-Jhelum hydroelectric project in PoK
i dont think india will have to 'cause trouble'. your uighurs and mongols and tibetans have shown how fragile your empire is. also you'll soon have han-upon-han acrimony. the time for empires is long gone, so today's communist empire will go the same way as the ming and the manchu: into oblivion. china will soon be back to a rump han state as the 2/3 of its landmass that belongs to uighurs, tibetans and mongols all frees itself from han tyranny.
well the article is full of different strings, but it did not cover atleat one enough or eloborate on any. The elephant in the room is totally ignored (usa).
washington is preparing india to counter china, which is what brings the india in the growing economy.
But it is a fact, that india will play its double role and will never-ever mess with china.
as part of Pakistan, india had started since 1947 so that is not a new story. India is defeated on srilanka grounds, now wait for afghanistan. probably just another 2 years. bless you!
US experts said that China had doubled its nuclear and missile potential over the above-mentioned period. The modern-day nuclear forces of China are based on latest technologies and are capable of reaching such distant targets as Washington.
The DF-41 mobile missile system is expected to become the main attraction of the military parade in China. The new system, the CIA said, is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 13,000 kilometers. It will be extremely hard to intercept Chinese ballistic missiles topped with ten dispensing warheads.
China will also unveil the ground-based CSS-X-10 and the sea-based JL-2 missiles during the parade on October 1. The new Dong Hai 10 (DH-10) cruise missile is also interesting: it is developed on the base of the nuclear-capable Soviet X-55 cruise missile. China already has 200 such missiles, US special services say. Many of them are deployed in the southern part of the country and are targeted against Taiwan.

President Barack Obama is expected to sign a defence bill, which includes tough new conditions linking $2.3 billion American military aid to Pakistan to fight against terror and not using it to wage war against India.
The president is likely to sign the $680 billion fiscal 2010 defence authorisation bill passed by the Senate 68-29 late Thursday night despite objections to its funding for a controversial backup jet fighter engine. The House of Representatives had passed the bill Oct 8.
Among other things, the bill aims at ensuring that US military resources provided to Pakistan are not squandered or diverted to adversely affect the balance of power in the region, an oblique reference to India.
The bill also requires the President to make an assessment every six months of the effectiveness of Pakistans efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat Al Qaeda, its affiliated networks, and other extremist forces in Pakistan; to eliminate the safe havens for such forces in Pak

The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has said that India would emerge a more successful country from an economic perspective in the long run in comparison to China
People's Republic of China- Largest population. Arguably the world's largest army (depending on whether you include paramilitaries). UNSC member. Nuclear capabilities. One of the world's largest economies which is expanding very quickly, seems to be unhindered by the recession.
China's foreign ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu has expressed "strong dissatisfaction" on the visit by an Indian leader who was not named though in the online statement.
"We urge the Indian side to take China's solemn concerns seriously and do not stir up trouble at the disputed area with a view to ensuring the sound development of China-India relations," the statement read.
India came out with its own strong reaction, saying Ma's remarks would not help talks the two countries are holding over their border dispute.
India insisted Arunachal Pradesh is an "integral" and inalienable" part of India.
China lays claim to 90,000 square km (34,750 square miles) of land in that Himalayan region governed by India.
On its part, New Delhi accuses Beijing of "occupying" about 38,000 square km (14,670 square miles) in the Kashmir region.
India also alleges Pakistan has ceded 5,180 km (3,220 miles) in Kashmir to China
There are news reports emanating from Beijing and Delhi where we see the rising temperatures between Indian and China. Bharat has had wars with all her neighbors including China. The last war with China was in 1962 where the Chinese gave the Bharatis a huge drubbing. There have been border violation and firing across the border in South Tibet (aka Arunchal Pradesh in Bharat and in the Aksai Chin area of China. Aksia Chin was a border area between Pakistan and China. Pakistan resolved the border by giving CHina 5000 square miles of Aksia Chin to Beijing. This allowed China to build land roads to Tibet and consolidate its national sovereignty.
Lol Since when Tibet become the part of national sovereignty when tibetans are raped and murdered by chinese.
Tibet has always been a free state under Indian rulers Ashoka and so on since past.
Chinese are dirty chinks need to go through history lmao
It is fairly predictable the Sino-India border would be the most militarized zone on earth as both side prepare for war. It is almost like not turning back except to reinforce their tanks and missiles on the border. War has been part of their history on both side, for the worst or good, they will fight.
India is one and only country in whole world that have bad relations with all of her neighbours(China,Pakistan,Bangladesh).
with china on occupation of tibetian area,
with pakistan on kashmir,
with bangladesh on bengal (half part or bengal is in India other in bangladesh).
This shows the behaviour and rightfulness of India.
@sam:
Does pakistan have good relations with all its neighbours (Afghanistan, India, Iran). Not one.
Does china have good relations with all its neighbours (Russia, India, Mongolia, Vietnam, etc). Not one.
India has good relationship with Nepal Bangldesh, Srilanka, Maldives, Myanmar except countries which treat India as their enemy, i.e., china and pakistan
Japan is proposing economic union of East Asian countries. This should expand to a Pan Asian economic union in the same principle as EU. Lets work toward that. When that happen, border disputes will be less important. We must look forward not behind. Countries look behind will stay behind, countries look forward will expand and grow.
Basically China and India have to understand one aspect that they are THE GROWING ECONOMY & POWER and it is in their best interest to avoid any confrontation which would take them a decade back.EARTH has seen enough blood shed and it is time for both of us to be strength for each other and control world economy and overcome the poverty which had been widespread in India & China villages. My appeal to all YOUTH of both Nations to work in above direction.
Pakistan's interest is Kashmir & China's Arunchal... why not India just address the problems and focus on poverty. More than half of india's population live in slums? Increasing internal security and spending more on people in need is more important for india than showing off it's billion budget program to different forums. Not even a single example that a state is occuping land of 4 countries. Yes its India occuping Pak, China, Benglandesh & Srilanka's territorries.
"Ching says:
Pakistan's interest is Kashmir & China's Arunchal... why not India just address the problems and focus on poverty. More than half of india's population live in slums? "
India is trying to do that. And China is a 1st world nation?China spends 4.5% of it's GDP on defense when it's per capita GDP is half of that Mexico/Brazil. India spends a mere 2.5%. China is aggresively building up it's military and has fought wars with almost all it's neighbors Vietnam, India, Russia, and in Korea.
As far as this article, everyone is trying to maintain a balance of power in Asia, the source of the imbalance is coming clearly from China with it's rapid military buildup.
By the way your friends the Pakistani's are killing Chinese workers in Pakistan because they consider you infidels. They are also sponsoring terrorism in your Xinjiang province and even terrorism in Beijing and East China. Wake up and you will see who your real enemies are. Indians and Chinese have the same goal
"Not even a single example that a state is occuping land of 4 countries. Yes its India occuping Pak, China, Benglandesh & Srilanka's territorries."
That's an outright lie and propaganda, India is not occupying any territory from Bangladesh (infact in 1971 India helped Bangaldesh get it's independence) and there are not issues with Sri Lanka at all other than in your imagination.
As for China it has fought wars with all it's neighbors and has territorial disputes with Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Japan etc.. over Spratly Islands or other Islands.
India is sponsoring Terror not Pakistan. They just need war and when it is war there soldiers run and hide. Right now as we know Pakistani Soldiers are fighting with Terrorists but India is giving them Money (That is account from one of the terrorists who said that when he asked Baitullah Mehsud where this money is coming from he said from India (Source GEO INTERVIEW LIVE)). He said that Indian officials (Agents) come to the mountainous region and give a full briefcase of money. The Indians are enemies of all other Asian countries and no one respects them this includes Pakistan, China, Srilanka, Bangladesh, and many other countries in Asia.
It is because of the British art of "Divide and Rule" that India was partitioned into two countries, Pakistan and India. On the Congress Party side, it was the old horses, who were tired of fighting for Independence, decided to get whatever is possible and the Mountbatten and his wife, made it possible to sell the plan of dividing the country. Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan, the tallest leader of the NWFP, Moulana Abul Kalam Azad and many others, including Gandhiji, supported the idea of NOT dividing the country. If India had not been partitioned, ours will be perhaps the most powerful nation in the world and the poorest of the poor, in both countries, will have benefited. While in India, it is politicians who are most powerful, but, unfortunately, in Pakistan BOTH THE politicians and the Army Generals are the most corrupt and enjoy all the wealth in that country and all the foreign aid that flows from abroad. Even now, it is not TOO LATE for the two countries to be united as a Federation.
Balasubramanian, I am surprised that you dream of an undivided India. A 35% muslim population is a invitation to civil war and a perpetual crisis. What we should have done is to complete the partition and send all the muslims across the border. Islam is an acid that corrodes the vessel that holds it and Muslims are doing the same to India (Ask any country that has a muslim minority, they are only trouble).
If we had decided on a two state solution, we should have implemented it completely. In any case, India should do it now or prepare to be drowned in a sea of Allah mongering suicide bombers.
Every country must always be prepared for war with its neighbors. Whats the news here?
I am muslim Indian and I love India. I will fight against China and Pakistan if is needed. Real Muslims want Peace
Dinesh!!!! You are a looser
you will do what ever , you cannot make your place in india , hindus are very makkar
Just why are we brsitling at each other ? Because we choose to pray differently ? An individualistic tendency coming to the fore before societal concerns ?
A pity.
Forget about China. You will not hear any major news about India-China politics for the next few years. And if you do, then China has not learnt from its mistake this time and will be commiting another one. China cannot do anything militarily to India and if they try it will only benefit us as it will wake up our lazy leaders to modernise our defences.
I have thought of a new name for China: Jumping Jacks. They jump around trying to gain some respect from the world. They claim that they were unaffected by the reccession but they were unable to cash in on this. They have helped USA get out of reccession cheapely by buying Dollars. Chinas selection of freinds is also losers. Pakistan, Myanmar, Somalia. Everyone in this world is wary of China and waiting for it to do something.
Great, I think humans are progressing backwards when it comes to politics and international affairs specially. The major problem seems to be the lack of sources on the planet and the countries being completely alien about it. I remember being taught since grade 1 (War is a bad thing) yet we had WW1,WW2 so on and so forth and it will never end...as I type there is a war going on in Pakistan (home country), yet we choose to ignore the importance of the brutality and follow our arrogance kept amongst us. I really hope India does not gage into a War with Pakistan or China. In my opinion India has much to lose than other countries, as it recently erupted, doing well as a nation.
hello - I'm a Pakistani - I've lived most of my life aboard - i've even spent a lot of time in India. One thing that seems to be amiss in this article is its lack of evident fact. Before we start ripping on each other I think its important to understand that this article is written by an amateur in an amateur newspaper.
Just to set something straight - India and Pakistan both have their own domestic problems which are completely neglected in this fear of attack from each other. Lets make one thing clear, Islamism is different to Pakistan and it a dam shame that the two are now so synonymous. Though Pakistan is as at fault for allowing this to happen, it must be made clear that Taliban, and these extremists are not Pakistani they are Afghani or are northern fortiers men that live in the disputed no man's zone, where is un-policed by the pakistani government. There is no legal border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Duran Line contracted expired a long time ago.
This sounds like a propaganda article. China has no rights over either Tibet, the area of Arunachal Pradesh in north east India or the portion of Kashmir it forcibly occupies. Tibet has been an independent region for thousands of years until the Chinese invaded and occupied it. As for China's false claim on Aurnachal Pradesh, it officially and legally became part of India as per an agreement with a free Tibetan government and the British India. No Tibetan including the Dalai Lama has ever challenged this agreement. In fact, the Dalai Lama has categorically stated that Arunachal/Tawang is part of India. I think the Chinese should vacate Tibet and East Turkistan (Xinjiang) where they oppress the native people and destroys their native culture. China has been an aggressive expansionist power and has disputed with all its neighbors- India, Khazakastan, Vietnam, Burma, Japan, Cambodia, Thailand, Korea, Mongolia and Russia. China is trying to destabilize all its neighbors.
Which is why it is so important to make a distinction between Pakistani's and Terrorists. We don't take care of our own people, they will turn to those that will help them - even if they are misguided and used and that's the reality of the situation.
India is as at fault for fueling this instability and that is why events like the Bombay Bombings occur. Why does India have 17 consulates on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan? Again we can only speculate but I think the picture is clear.
Its about time there is new leadership in both the countries and this useless and unproductive animosity between the two come to an end.
Its evident that there is so much insurgency in Pakistan that people are lashing out on all foreigners - misguided and heavily funded. If Chinese workers can be attacked and named infidels, the very essence of Islam which is about peace and acceptance is lost. So let us not confuse Islam, Radical Islamism and Pakistani's.
The nation has great potential, we brew our own beer which is fantastic. There are a lot of forward thinking people that want change - our structure is totally raped with fudealism and the military ideal runs deep in the country. Let us understand that these issues will take fifty if not a hundred years to deal with, but let us be the ones to take the first step. And I think the first step for all you Pakistanis is to get over this insecurity about India and focus on our country - India is a much larger nations with enough problems on all borders and internally of its own. Let us first perfect our selves before pointing fingers.
Interesting article, suggesting that Indian paranoia runs deep. While it's true that the more assertive Chinese have stepped up the pressure, I highly doubt the possibility of any war unless India initiates any action along the border.
Pakistan is mired in the terrorist insurgency and in no way prepared to attack India. There is no reasoning or need for such an attack.
But hypothetically speaking, could India (even with Russian help) win against Pakistan + China?
Mr Muja this is very corect. India is afraid of China. China is King of Asia and India is jelos
Ciung ,
Not really, infact Indian and Chinese corporations are working together as they are more interested in doing business than fighting.
The Paki's need to stop blowing each other up and stop sponsoring terrorism in India, U.S., UK, China and numerous other countries. Why do you Paki's keep blowing up your own people when your country is already 98% Muslim?
Hmmm....
well, that would be ONE way to solve some of the overpopulation problem in the world...
(maybe not the best way)
zizzo, you sound like a very reasonable and intellectual Pakistani. However, you don't appear to be on top of all the facts. The 17 Indian consulates etc. are all propaganda material cooked up by Pakistani ISI agents Ahmed Quraishi, Hamid Gul and other conspiracy spin meisters. Anyhow, Pakistanis shouldn't complain about India in Afghanistan since they allow China to destabilize India by giving them access to pakistan, not to mention the three decades of proxy terror war that the Pakistani state has been waging against India, the latest one being the barbaric Mumbai attack.
