Many times people with an open mind learn about the nudist culture and find the potential benefits of nudism compelling but something keeps them from actually giving nudism a try. Typically the reasons for their reluctance are some very common fears that people have about nudity. Dallas people who find themselves interested in trying nudism but at the same time holding back from trying social nudity because of these fears should understand two things. They are not alone. Just about everyone who has become involved in nudist culture has faced those same fears. That fact illustrates the second point. Fears that stand in the way of an interest in trying nudism can be overcome.

Negative reactions by friends or family

Given that many have a generally unhealthy attitude towards nudity it is reasonable to feel concern about how friends or family might react upon learning that a person has decided to try nudism. But there are ways to deal with this situation.

For some, it can be handled simply by open, honest communication. Learn as much as possible about the nudist culture and the benefits available to those who practice social nudity and then simply explain to friends and family members why social nudity is good. For those who feel certain that the ones they love just wouldn’t understand there is nothing wrong with simply keeping their involvement in nudism private.

Complications at work

Another common fear that holds people back from trying nudism is the fear that if it became known at work that they enjoyed social nudity it could cause problems with co-workers or business associates or they might even lose their job. Again, while an understandable concern, this fear is often exaggerated. There are a few jobs with special sensitivities where some of these things could become realities but for the most part even if others became aware that a person enjoyed social nudity, nothing negative would result. An employer need never know that an employee is a nudist. Since all the local clubs are about an hour distant from Dallas, it is unlikely that a person would run into anyone that they were acquainted with through work unless of course that person was also involved in nudism and thus it would not be an issue.

Body image issues

Some people believe that their bodies are not especially attractive and fear that others will judge them negatively for having the wrong size or shape. One visit to nudist club usually will put this fear to rest. Few people have perfect bodies and a key part of nudist culture is body image acceptance, people accepting themselves and others regardless of size, weight or body type. Sure some may make private judgments about the appearance of others but is it considered a gross violation of nudist etiquette to be open about it. Those contemplating a first time social nudist experience should feel confident that the majority of nudists are accepting and non-judgmental when it comes to physical appearance.

Fear of embarrassment

Some worry that being naked in a social setting for the first time will cause them to feel shy or awkward and they will appear socially inept or they may inadvertently violate a point of nudist etiquette and thus embarrass themselves. First, there is really nothing different about nudist social gatherings and clothed social gatherings beyond the absence of clothing. New nudists frequently report that they were actually surprised how quickly they felt comfortable being nude around others for the first time. There are only a few rules of etiquette to be observed like always sitting on a towel and making eye contact with people rather than staring at the sexual parts of others.

The best way to handle fears is to face them because doing so promotes positive changes and personal growth. When a person faces and overcomes his or her fears they generally find that the fears were overly exaggerated and were not nearly as scary as they imagined. Instead of allowing fears about nudity to be an obstacle to exploring nudist culture, simply make the decision to give nudism a try by visiting one of the area clubs for the first time. Those who have almost universally agree that they found social nudity to be fun, relaxing and stress free.
