CNN fired News anchor Rick Sanchez. CNN's statement stated that "Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well," and that "Sanchez had gone on Pete Dominick's Sirius XM show to promote his new book, "Conventional Idiocy." While on air, he called Stewart a "bigot," implied that CNN is controlled by Jews and that the network passed him over for promotion because he's Latino."
On Domicks show Sanchez was disucssing bias in the media on both the left and right and his ongoing feud with Comedian and Political Pundit John Stewert. It all started when Sanchez started to talk about bigotry The "Elite Northeast establishment liberals" who he felt use him as a token hispanic. He added "“I think to some extent Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are the same way. I think Jon Stewart’s a bigot.“
Dominick who used to work for Stewart asked him to explain. He responded "I think he looks at the world through, his mom, who was a school teacher, and his dad, who was a physicist or something like that. Great, I’m so happy that he grew up in a suburban middle class New Jersey home with everything you could ever imagine."
Dominick asked him"“What group is he bigoted towards?” He responded “Everybody else who’s not like him. Look at his show, I mean, what does he surround himself with?” Domick wanted spefic examples for the harsh allegations against Stewart and Sanchez replid that “That’s what happens when you watch yourself on his show every day, and all they ever do is call you stupid.”
Domick asked him what group he was bigoted against and he responded "Anybody who’s different than you are, anybody who’s not form your frame of reference; anybody who doesn’t look and sound exactly like the people that you sound [like] and grew up with. The people that you put on your show, who always reflect somebody who’s, “I’m bringing in to sit around me,” you know, who’s very different from me. I’m sorry, but I just don’t buy this thing that the only people out there who are prejudiced… are the Right. There’s people that are prejudiced on both sides."
Sanchez went on to say that Stewarts view is “very much a white, liberal establishment point of view,” and that "He can’t relate to a guy like me. He can’t relate to a guy whose dad worked all his life. He can’t relate to somebody who grew up poor.' Sanchez added that “If we’re gonna call one side bigoted, we probably gotta look at the other side and say the same thing.”
Dominick agreed with Sanchez that liberals are just as capable of bigotry and that he has brought this point up many times on his show but he still did not see any evidence of Stewarts bigotry and convinced Sanchez to use the term prejuduce instead. Sanchez claimed that people who aren't minorities understand what they go through (which is ironic conidering that Sanchez is of European decent).
It all got ugly when Domick pointed out that Jews like Stewart have a sense of what its like to be an oppressed minority. Sanchez responded sarcastically "yeah Very powerless people... He's such a minority, I mean, you know ... Please, what are you kidding? ... I'm telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they -- the people in this country who are Jewish -- are an oppressed minority? Yeah......"
Sanchez adknowledged that Jews had a history of oppresion and had many Jewish friends growing up in Miami and understands how older Jew may feel senseitive towards bigotry. Sanchez points out that just becausee someone is Jewish doesn't mean they are not capable of being prejudice but does not make them more likely to be than others.
Many prominent Jews have made similar observations as Sanchez in regards to Jewish power in the media. Writing in the LA Times colluminist Joel Stein in an article titled "Who runs Hollywood? C'mon" stated that "I have never been so upset by a poll in my life. Only 22% of Americans now believe "the movie and television industries are pretty much run by Jews," down from nearly 50% in 1964. The Anti-Defamation League, which released the poll results last month, sees in these numbers a victory against stereotyping. Actually, it just shows how dumb America has gotten. Jews totally run Hollywood."
Actor Ben Stein wrote an article titled "Do Jews run Hollywood? You bet they do...and what of it?" were he states "First, it is extremely clear to anyone in Hollywood that Jews are, so to speak, "in charge" in Hollywood in a way that is not duplicated in any other large business, except maybe garments or scrap metal or folding boxes."
What is ironic though is that Sanchez has the same victim mentality and played the race card himself on the issue of illegal immigration. Some minorities feel resentment against Jews who they percieve as whites who view themselves as an oppresed minority but Sanchez is wealthy and of European decent. Though it probably was not a smart move career wise to say, it was not bigoted and is backed up by facts. If he just kept it to generic whites he would probably still have a job.

I saw Rick Sanchez's comments on Youtube and I thought them to be heart felt and truthful. I suspect that Mr Sanche's may have been too sincere and the end of his career on its ways since he spoke,

I've always wondered how the term "anti-Semitic" can be used as an accusation against anyone who criticizes either Israel or Israelis, especially when one considers that the majority of modern-day Jewry is primarily of European descent. Zionism is just another form of reactionary, white racism, in this case applied with brutal and bloody force against actual Semitic people (the Palestinians).
