Gold Motel provides sunny pop on a cold winter day

Chicago-based band, Gold Motel, played in Minneapolis for their 4th time this year at First Avenue recently.  The band played at local group, Motion City Soundtrack's, first annual Popsickle Festival, a festival that brings in hot new talent for kids who don't see very many bands play in the dead of winter.

When the band hit the stage, the lights went dim, and the band perceded to play a half-hour long set of their catchiest tunes.  It made you forget that it was winter when you stepped out the door afterwords.  Songs included "Safe in LA," "We're On The Run," and "Stealing the Moonlight."

Singer Greta Morgan's vocals rang through the crowd as she sang, "You're Cold Shoulders, You're Cold Shoulders....," in a beautiful voice that is uncommon for a 22-year-old woman.  Her vocals were equally matched by the great guitar playing of Eric Hehr who reminds us a little of James Dean.

The group has a great album out titled, "Summer House," that literally screams summer and the 1960's.  Their recent release, a 7-inch vinyl called "Talking Fiction, has two more songs that showcase their talent for creating pop hits.  The band was a hit with the crowd and even comes out to hang out with their fans after the show.  They do everything themselves without a record label.
