2012 Elephant Ride is less than two weeks away...

For you folks who ride when the snow is out there, who don't mind being cold one minute and sweating bullets the next, and are curious to see how your motorcycle will do in deep snow conditions.....this is the event for you!  My thanks to Ken Bingenheimer, National Motorcycle Examiner for his reminder.

The 2012 iteration of the Elephant Ride is scheduled for the weekend of 11-12 February.  There are pre-ride camping and social events the evening of February 11, but the actual riding attempts start in the morning of February 12 this year.  Riders will gather at the junction of US285 and Guanella Pass Road in the small settlement of Grant, CO.

This will be my third Elephant Ride, the first two were attempted on my 1996 Ural Sportsman Sidecar Rig in the company of fellow Uralisti and a myriad of other riders.  Please see links for the reports on those rides.

This is a very informal event, with much partying (so I am told) the night before to get those riders in the proper "frame of mind" for the riding to follow the next morning.  So, for those of you who enjoy camping on snow in probably freezing temperatures, this is the event for you as well.

Check this thread on the advrider forum, for the camping location to stay at the night before:  LINK.

I hope to see you there, I'll be the guy riding the V-Strom/Dauntless Sidecar Rig....I wonder how far up the trail I'll get?  (Probably not as far as the Ural Rigs, but we'll see).

Ride Safe.  Ride Aware.
