There are only three dates remaining in 2009:
- September 6th
- October 4th
- November 1st
That’s it, three opportunities to attend the “Ephrata First Sunday Motorcycle Rally!”
The Ephrata rally is held on the first Sunday of each month, between March and November. Sponsored by the Ephrata American Legion Post, the rally is held at the American Legion Post/Ephrata Community Park in Ephrata, PA
Riders from as far away as West Virginia come to meet, chat, compare bikes, have coffee and enjoy the buffet breakfast. Everyone is welcome and the Ephrata rally always has a wide variety of bikes on display. Bikes generally begin arriving around 8:00 AM and the rally winds down about noon. It is held rain or shine!
According to Merv Hill, President of the Board of Directors for the Ephrata American Legion Post #429, they've had as many as 6,000 motorcycles show up on one July 4th Sunday! They've been hosting the First Sunday Rally for approximately 10 years. Merv says that on a warm, sunny Sunday, you'll see pretty much any bike that's ever been produced at the rally!
The buffet style breakfast is a bargain. $8.50 (plus tax) buys all you can eat scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, ham, sausage, toast and coffee or juice. Breakfast is served between 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM, but Merv says that if there are still hungry bikers and food remaining, they'll keep serving! On a typical good weather Sunday, the rally will cook a whopping 300 pounds of eggs!
When the American Legion post began hosting the rally around 1999, they were financially strapped and operating deeply in the red. The First Sunday Rally was the driving force behind the American Legion Posts' financial recovery. Merv is extremely thankful and complimentary to all of the bikers who frequent the First Sunday Rally. According to Merv, rally participants are polite, respectful and even clean-up after themselves!
The Ephrata American Legion Post is located at 300 Cocalico Street, Ephrata PA 17522. Following Conowingo Road (US1) north from Bel Air, Ephrata, PA is a scenic 65 mile ride along some very nice country roads. Click here to view Google Map directions from Bel Air.
I hope to see you there!
