Massimo Pigliucci wrote an interesting note on an ongoing feud between himself and Jerry Coyne with a little Richard Dawkins thrown in for bad measure:
He seems to be the sort of atheist who is much too wrapped up in well within the box atheist group think to see the reality of atheist vs. Christian polemics:
This is not going to be a post about substance, only about form. Yes, I know, many in the atheist community don’t seem to think that the latter matters…
This is rather odd since if it was not for the latter, there would be no atheist community. When one believes in things that are not true there is no matter but only form. When what one believes is a negative affirmation based on rebellion there in no matter but only form.
Massimo Pigliucci notes:
…a few days ago I published a special “Rationally Speaking Picks” with links to several articles critical of Christopher Hitchens, to balance out what I perceived to be a bit too much of a glorification of his persona upon his untimely death.
Apparently, that simple list managed to completely unhinge my colleague Jerry Coyne(as well as Richard Dawkins), in the process precisely making my point that some atheists suffer from hero worship and a selective dearth of critical thinking…
Indeed, part of what comes with the atheist package is the consoling delusion of being more evolved than thou, more erudite than thou, etc. Yet, if they have barely evolved beyond silly superstitious beliefs such as theism they still suffer Darwinian vestiges and thus, engage in hero worship. Do not think so?
Simply write something critical of the high priests celebrity atheists and you will learn that this is very, very true. And, indeed, form replaces critical thinking in the atheist community. Or, rather worldview adherence replaces critical thinking. Self-censorship of thinking so as to not violate the materialist dogma replaces critical thinking. This is the very opposite of free thinking—it is well within the box atheist group think.
When Dogmatheism’s Grand Cenobite, Richard Dawkins, made a disparaging remark about Massimo Pigliucci, Pigliucci wrote:
Ouch. Not exactly a gentlemanly remark, particularly from a Brit of supposedly high class as Richard Dawkins. (And this, of course, is his second faux pas this year, after the debacle caused by his infamous comment to Rebecca Watson about “Elevatorgate.”)
If you know not of what he speaks, at the end of the quote, lean all about it from our previous article:
Kavorkatheism: “elevatorgate” and our only purpose for existing
Massimo Pigliucci lastly, refers to:
…this debasing level of anger and pettiness. It is a shame, and it only further lowers the level of discourse within our community, inflicting additional damage to the way the outside world perceives us.
Again, the atheist community is premised upon debasing levels of anger and pettiness. It is to the point that they lower the level of discourse and damage the way the outside world perceives them—a clear perception. If one wanted to, say, make fun of them they would be hard pressed since they have become caricatures of themselves. Think of “Santa Syndrome,” correlating God with the Tooth Fairy or even the fact that Richard Dawkins’ main argument against God’s existence is something with which children deal in Sunday School: who made God?
But Massimo Pigliucci only counts two Dawkinsian faux pas in 2011 AD? The fact that they are both against fellow atheists is noteworthy. This is why one must urge atheists to abscond from their almost exclusive well within the box atheists group think de jour.
Dawkins spends his days dishing out ungentlemanly remarks against those whom he disagrees. To note two non-2011 AD faux pas: Richard Dawkins told Rabbi Shmuley Boteach that he rants like Hitler and compared Ted Haggard’s church service to Hitler’s Nazi Nuremberg rally, see:
Why is it that atheists who make their living by running anti-Christian support group and pouring out derision suddenly turn into prim and proper gentlemen when someone responds and point out their nastiness? “Oh my, why, I’ve never!”
