The odds makers at popular online sportsbook, Bodog, are picking Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant to be the runner-up for the Most Valuable Player award for the 2010-11 season with a 3 to 1 odds.

Based on a 5 to 2 odds, the favorite to win the MVP honors is the 2009-10 Scoring Champion, Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant. Durant, a member of the USA team that will compete in the FIBA World Championships in Turkey this Saturday, was last season’s MVP runner-up.

The reigning MVP, Miami Heat’s Lebron James, was chosen third with a 9 to 2 odds.

However, Bryant’s primary focus will not be on winning the MVP honors this season, but a third straight championship, and possibly his sixth overall.

“James can collect as many regular-season trophies as he wants so long as Lakers guard Kobe Bryant keeps collecting championship rings,“ says LA Times’ sports columnist Mark Medina.

Bryant earned the 2010 NBA Finals MVP in the Lakers’ second straight championship and Bryant’s fifth.
