With their perfect mix of southern rock, country and smooth soul the Drive-By Truckers (DBT’s) deliver another classic record, once again showing why they are one of the premiere bands of today’s music world. Go-Go Boots , hitting stores Feb 15th, delivers 14 tunes dealing with the difficulties of love, battling inner demons and losing everything you have. As a band the DBT’s are at the top of their game, following one of their best records, The Big To-Do, they have put out an album that is one of the darkest of their career.

Patterson Hood’s vocals are haunting and powerful. Tunes like “Used To Be A Cop”, about a man who lost everything, Eddie Hinton's “Everybody Needs Love”, love can pull you through tough troubled times, and “The Fireplace Poker”, an extremely dark tune about a reverend who has his wife killed, exemplify the DBT’s ability to touch on a wide range of subject matter.

In addition to his sweet guitar playing, Mike Cooley supplies his countrified jangly voice on a few tunes, (too few in my opinion). “The Weakest Man”, a song about leaving a woman, and “Cartoon Gold” about missing someone and not having the smarts to remedy the situation, end up being some of the best tracks on the record.

Shonna Tucker lays down the rhythms on bass and has one of the sweetest voices out there today. Her syrupy, southern drawl covering the Eddie Hinton tune “Where’s Eddie” adds a whole new level to the tune and is the perfect change of pace for this album.

John Neff, Jay Rodriguez and Brad Morgan supply the back bone of the tunes, Neff is a master of the pedal steel, Rodriguez keyboard playing complements nicely and Morgan pounds the skins like nobody’s business.
