The San Antonio Metal Music Examiner had the privilege of covering six festivals and an additional 16 "regular" concerts across South Texas in 2013. From Corpus Christi to Austin and of course San Antonio in between, thousands upon thousands of photos were taken.
Many were discarded. Some were good enough to publish.
Ranging from indoor shows to 12-hour fests occurring in the blazing 100-degree summer heat, the SAMME witnessed many newer bands for the first time while not forgetting about several of metalheads' favorites.
As a thank-you to longtime subscribers and those who may have discovered the SAMME in 2013, here is a countdown of his Top 30 photographs of the year, culminating with the top 15 (top left). Think of these not so much as the best but more along the lines of personal favorites.
Which one is No. 1? Here are a few hints: The photo has a little bit of everything (musicians, fans, pyrotechnics) and involves one of heavy metal's two biggest bands in the world today -- the only artist to make this Top 30 three times.
