The end of another great year for rock and roll and metal is drawing quickly to a close. While 2013 was not the richest year for thrash music, it certainly served up some neck-snapping gems. Some of our choices on this year's list have some crossover impact, but all are thrash at heart.
Thrash Metal as a sub genre was born as the 70s came to a close, and it mixes the sounds of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal with the hardcore punk ethos. The goal was to combine the power and melody of traditional metal with punk's speed and aggression.
The heart of the Thrash movement was founded in the Bay Area of Northern, California where the likes of Metallica, Exodus, Testament, and Megadeth were originally born. But there was also movement on the East Coast and over in Europe where Venom's "Black Metal" album paved the way for extreme metal genres.
On this year's Best of List there are some legends of the Thrash genre as well as some exciting and fresh new talent.
Some Honorable Mentions go to the likes of Annihilator, Revocation, Havok, Onslaught and Warbringer who would have rounded out a Top 15 list. You can check out our 2012 list if you feel like reminiscing a bit.
