The 85th Annual Academy Awards: Best dressed list

Amanda Seyfried is always a beauty, and this year at the Oscars was no exception. The 27-year-old actress and singer looked simply perfect in a custom lilac Alexander McQueen sequined gown, Roger Vivier shoes, and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. Her pastel makeup paired well with the dress’s hue, and her up-do was elegant with her keyhole and halter neckline. Seyfried later hit the Oscars stage with the rest of the cast of nominated ‘Les Mis’ for a goosebump-inducing performance. ‘Les Mis’ won for Best Supporting Actress (Anne Hathaway), Best Sound Mixing and Best Hair and Makeup.Beautiful, fresh-faced Swedish actress Alicia Vikander made her American debut with 2012's "Anna Kerenina" and rocked the Academy Awards Red Carpet in a beautiful pale blue beaded number whose designer is unknown. We loved this look for its simplicity. In fact, Amy looked more confident in this one gown on the red carpet than she's ever looked, am I right?!The actress was nominated for "The Master," which also starred the always-controversial Joaquin Phoenix, who was nominated for Best Actor, and fellow nominee Philip Seymour Hoffman. So, she may not have won the Oscar but Amy Adams won every "best dressed" list in-and out- of Hollywood. That should count for something, right?

The biggest night in entertainment has officially ended and all anyone seems to be talking about today is what on earth the best of the Hollywood best chose to wear.

The theme of the night was undoubtedly Old Hollywood Glam, as we saw gorgeous actresses like Jessica Chastain rocking a subtly-sexy Jessica Rabbit-inspired ensemble, Charlize Theron in a part-modern, part-classic Christian Dior creme peplum number, and Jennifer Lawrence, also in a tasteful but overwhelming Dior gown. There were lots of earthy tones, lots of sequins, and lots of full skirts, as you'll see in our list of the best dressed Oscar attendees.

The Academy Awards marks the end of awards season. Now we just have to wait until next year to see who was a trainwreck and who made us all "ooh" and "aaah."

  • Charlize Theron can do no wrong. In a white hot Christian Dior Haute Couture dress, Roger Vivier shoes, and Harry Winston jewelry, Theron swept down the Red Carpet with grace. When she talked to Ryan Seacrest, she addressed her short hair-do, saying it was the ‘most free-ing’ thing she’s ever done. “I highly recommend it. I think every woman should do it,” she told the host. Theron joined Channing Tatum onstage for a ballroom dance, and presented an award later with Dustin Hoffman.
  • Jessica Chastain went for a custom Armani Prive dress for the evening that was both classic and glittering. She wore Christian Louboutin heels and rocked some Harry Winston jewels. She said she chose the dress because it reminded her of old Hollywood glamour: ‘I chose it because I’m such a fan of movies. I love cinema so much and when I saw it, it was a very ‘Happy Birthday Mr. President [look]’ Jessica was nominated for the Best Actress award for her work in ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ and was joined on the Red Carpet by her boyfriend Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo.
  • Despite the fact she’s got a bun in the oven, Jenna Dewan-Tatum refused to play it safe, wearing a custom sheer lace gown by Rachel Roy. The flattering style made for a perfect vignette to husband Channing Tatum’s handsome dinner suit and bowtie. Her wavy up-do was elegant along with her piercing red lips. Irene Neuwirth jewels, a satin Christian Louboutin clutch, and Brian Atwood heels completed her look. Channing and Jenna plan on having the baby in London where Channing will be filming his next movie. The couple were glowing on the Red Carpet as expectant parents and said they are waiting to find out the baby’s gender.
  • Washington hit it out of the park, looking poised and perfect in a flattering Miu Miu dress. She also sported Christian Louboutin heels, and totted a Prada bag. When asked about the beautifully blended hue of her dress, Washington said she couldn’t really come up with one single color: “[It’s] coral-y, red, hot pink, copper…I can’t really put a name on the color.” Washington was on the Red Carpet for her role in ‘Django Unchained’ which won for Best Supporting Actor for Christoph Waltz.
  • Television personality Maria Menounos is no stranger to awards show coverage and she looked absolutely stunning in her Romona Keveza neon pink gown. The dress worked exceptionally well with Menounos's teased, reto hairstyle and thin headband. Indeed, while her hair and makeup paid tribute to retro Hollywood glam, the TV presenter's dress was incredibly modern. And by the looks of it, incredibly difficult to wear!
  • It wasn’t all about George Clooney on the Red Carpet this year. Instead, his date Stacy Kiebler completely stole the show in a grey and silver Naeem Khan gown. The high neckline and black belt at the waist made for a sophisticated, statuesque look to Kiebler’s flawless frame. Kiebler’s hair and makeup were up to par with her outfit, creating a modern retro look and very old Hollywood. Clooney’s arm candy has been making statements on the Red Carpet since 2011 when they started dating.
  • Without a doubt, Octavia Spencer wowed us on the Red Carpet again this year. In a custom blush colored Tadashi Shoji dress, ‘The Help’ star made a statement with her one shoulder tulle and ruby red nails. Spencer proved her loyalty to Tadashi Shoji, as this was the second year in a row the actress donned a gown by the designer. Her accessories were Lorraine Schwartz jewels, an Edie Parker clutch, and Prada heels. Her Old Hollywood up-do paired with burgundy lips topped off her fairy tale look.
  • The theme at the 85th Annual Academy Awards seemed to be "Old Hollywood Glam" because more than one attendee was seen rocking some seriously retro-fabulous ensembles.Sally Field was no exception in her vibrant Valentino Couture sheer-sleeved gown. Though she was the essence of age-appropriate, the legendary "Lincoln" actress looked much younger than her years in a modern, low-maintenance updo and simple makeup.
