Thanks to the The Avengers, there will no doubt be an onslaught of Marvel sequels coming out the next few years; but Marvel isn't the only one guilty of this. With book sagas and trilogies being adapted every year into (mostly) crappy movies and showing no signs of stopping, it seems that every summer has become "the summer of sequels" - all vying for the top spot and a chance at breaking some kind of record. It works too as shown by the ridiculous amount of money these sequels generate. Even if they're plagued by bad reviews and/or forums where fans bash everything they can in hopes of sounding remotely intelligent, sequels continue to be blockbusters.
We have no doubt that despite the harsh reality that nothing is really original anymore in the world of cinema, these sequels might actually keep us from regretting paying 10 bucks for a movie ticket.
