The controversial group Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now, orACORN, has changed its name to

Community Organizations International. The group also threatens a lawsuit to any person who speaks ill of the group, especially if they were former members, which many claim is in attempt to silence dissenters who may threaten the organization’s future. The organization has been investigated in no less than 14 states in relation to voter fraud and members of ACORN have admitted in court to voting multiple times in swing vote states and to registering deceased people, criminals, and those who were not directly contacted by the organization, to vote. Dale Rathke, a prominent member and brother of Wade Rathke, the founder of ACORN, embezzled about $1 million through ACORN partner and New Orleans, Louisiana based non-profit Citizen’s Consulting Inc (CCI). ACORN members were one of the organizations behind a push for President Barack Obama’s election and were used to get citizens to register, many in poor and

inner-city neighborhoods, and were behind the Project Vote campaign.
40% of ACORN funds come from federal and state funding (meaning your tax dollars), and during the recession last year, they received $11 million, which is enough to keep over 100 teachers in a job. Because Project Vote is a non-profit, it is not supposed to promote partisan activities, but even a lawyer of ACORN, Elizabeth Kingsley, could not confirm whether the Project Vote campaign was conducted in a non-partisan manner or not, and many who have come across Project Vote volunteers feel that it was not. There were also rumors that President Obama was once a “leadership trainer” for ACORN.
ACORN was formed from the old National Welfare Rights Organization (NWRO) that staged protests at welfare offices during the 1960s. The NWRO’s goal was to eliminate welfare eligibility restrictions, which would mean that anyone could get on the public dole. They wanted to get as many people as possible on welfare, until it caused a radical restructuring of the United States governmental system, and they wanted that shift to move towards a socialistic one. NWRO, and subsequently ACORN, believe that capitalism, the economic system that has allowed our country to move forward to the point that it has, is evil and does not allow the majority to flourish, despite all evidence to the contrary. When appearing on the Bill O’Reilly show on Fox News, O’Reilly asked leaders of ACORN outright if they believed in socialism. The women refused to answer the question. Sol Stern, who wrote an article on ACORN in City Journal, called ACORN an “undisguised authoritarian socialism”. Some have even made a claim that ACORN encouraged subprime mortgage loans, so that it could blame banks in the future when people lost their homes. They are incredibly socialistic and radical in the utmost sense.
ACORN can change its name if it wants, but their socialistic schemes, aimed at taking money out of your pocket and mine, are still there. The public intimidation and corruption is still there. The fact that they are radical even to radicals is still there. ACORN, or COI, needs to be stopped no matter what their name is. They need to be denied public funds which were intended to give all Americans a voice, but instead are being used to give some multiple voices.
Instead of giving their own money to help the poor and the hungry, some wealthy Americans choose to donate money to ACORN and the socialist party to attempt to force money from those less wealthy than they. People in Hollywood are prime suspects for this. While all people should help the poor, no one should be forced to, and we should give to the poor and not Robin Hood wannabees. ACORN should be allowed to die. It is corrupt, too radical for the United States, and almost everywhere else in the world, and does not promote helping individuals, but would rather assist in hurting them for its own political advantages. They are the epitomization of the ideals that the founding fathers were trying to avoid. If you want people that are hungry to no longer be that way, give them your money directly and stop giving it to a corrupt organization whose ultimate goal is not to assist others who are hungry, but to promote a radical idea of government that will take from all of us.

Bogus--this is COMPLETELY off. Rathke's break off "ACORN International" changed at the behest of ACORN...ACORN's not going anywhere. And lady, you don't seem to be a fan of the truth, so saying this is futile, but if ACORN is getting any "money" from Hollywood, they'd sure like to know where it's going..
no Jonnie, ACORN by any other name is still ACORN. They will still feed off the people they claim to want to help. Fools like you support this radical army in their attempt to rob from the rich to give to themselves
ACORN is as corrupt as ever! And it will be under its new name as well!
Jonnie, Truth is these people in ACORN will do anything and anything to get what they want. It is well know they use threats, intimidation and anything else they can use. They feed off fools like you
this article is a bunch of lies and assumptions based off Mr. Rathke's blog. it is untrue.
it is true that ACORN no longer is allowing Wade Rathke to have anything to do with the organization including the name...this split has been widely reported as well.
Mr. Rathke is a terrible rotten apple...the same type that many organizations and institutions have to deal with every day...ACORN completely disassociating with him and refusing to let him use the name was the right thing for ACORN to do...
but alas, the reporter here has done not research and is just spouting some rant...depending on the rotten apple Wade Rathke for the information in the article.
what a shame!
Excellent article, despite the naysayers. History is full of reports of negative ACORN activities -- the author didn't have to rely on one single blog! Where have you all been living, to think anything positive of such an organization. All Americans need to wake up and realize that just talking pretty talk about equality and helping the poor does not actually EQUAL helping the poor -- or equality. An honest American organization does not have to shut up detractors, because they truth wins. But ACORN and all of these left leaners cannot tolerate anyone speaking against them in any way -- how is that American? How is that FREEDOM? I'm linking to your articles from my blog.
As you can see from the comments, I was correct that ACORN is a very controversial organization. I have done my research and would never use information coming from Rathke's blog considering his history with the organization and ties with corruption. All of the research was completed from reputable sources (Washington Examiner, New York Times, etc.) and a link was provided for one of the sources. ACORN promotes a redistribution of wealth mentality and a central goal is to rollback welfare reform to allow more people to acquire welfare benefits. I stand by my article and know that the truth has been seen by many, and those that do not see it, often do not want to.

Its going to the Democratic Party and other Liberal Organizations,,well whats left after they pocket what they can.
I will not answer any to the census bereau. I will boycott this on the grounds that I don't have to answer to an unlawful organization. We don't even know who's at the bottom of any truth. when it comes to ACORN. we have to give our information? Yet they can legally not give us any. BOYCOTT!
It's going to be glorious when someone finally finds the truth behind acorn. I HATE anyone who is stupid enough to defend acorn.
It's absolutely disgusting that my hard earned tax dollars went to support this organization. What's more disgusting is that in NYC, welfare recipients get free cell phones. I'm sure this corrupt organization has something to do with that too. We need a taxpayer revolution now!
The only difference between Democrats and Republicans is the degree to which they think it's acceptable to let poor people starve to death. Both parties represent the employer class, a system also known as a "dictatorship of the bourgeoisie", a system not of the working-class. I support ACORN/COI and any other organization of citizens brave enough to stand up for the welfare rights of Americans.
