Lynsey Dyer is Janis Joplin

I know how photo shoots work. There are lots of clothes, shoes and accessories to choose from. There is also hair, make-up and loud music which pumps up the room as the model makes love to the camera. Sometimes the shoot is mimicking an era, theme, or specific person. The latter would be the case here.

America’s beautiful and talented big-mountain skier Lynsey Dyer was featured in an article by skiingmag.com last year entitled: “The Women of Jackson Hole.” In this article there was a photograph of the 27 year-old skier that made me think I was looking at the famous naked and beaded photo of Janis Joplin taken by Bob Slidemann in San Francisco back in 1967.  If you are unfamiliar with the image, you can find it here with other supplemental video comparisons of the ladies.

I, in no way want to infer that Lynsey is Janis in a bad way (Janis died of a heroin overdose at the age of 27). Instead I’m looking at them both as strong, beautiful, and talented free spirited women. I guess that’s what Lynsey’s photographer (Heather Erson) and/or whoever the photo shoot’s creative director saw as well. Not only is Lynsey an amazing skier but she is also an accomplished artist and co-founder of the non-profit SHEJUMPS.ORG which encourages girls to get more involved in outdoor activities through mentorship and coaching.

Both ladies have made incredible breakthroughs in their respected careers. Their talents make them able to play with the boys whether it be on stage or on the mountain, and they beat them every time too. Normally I would say let’s hear it for the boys but let’s keep it to the ladies this time.
