Local news reported that eleven students were arrested for disrupting a speech at UC Irvine by Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren on February 8th.
"We have wasted a half hour of a very busy individuals' time. Hopefully we will be able to squeeze some time.." chided a faculty member after several interruptions in the nearly six minute video of the event which offers a condensed version of the outbursts and arrests. Many of the students' remarks can not be deciphered from the video, but one young man in a red t shirt clearly shouted "you sir are an accomplice to genocide" to Oren before he was defiantly led away by police.
The Muslim Student Union 'denied responsibility for the protests' and said it was students acting on their own, according to the L.A. Times. The union had issued a press release dated February 8 regarding Oren's visit which stated, in part,
- "The members of the Muslim Student Union at the University of California, Irvine, condemn and strongly oppose the presence of Michael Oren on our campus today. We resent that the Law School and the Political Science Department have agreed to cosponsor a public figure who represents a state that continues to commit human rights violations, thereby breaking international law and law of Israeli accord. We strongly condemn the university for cosponsoring, and therefore, inadvertently supporting the ambassador of a state that is condemned by more UN Human Rights Council resolutions than all other countries in the world combined".
Near the end of the Orange County Register video of the event around minute five, an entire group of students who had not interrupted the speech nor had been escorted out, stood up on their own accord and walked out of the hall as a group.
As they walked out, a man in a suit who appears to be in his 50's with glasses, brown hair, grayish beard, and wearing a yamaka tells a Muslim woman who is walking out what sounds like "you need to drop out and get a new hairstyle" or "hair color". The woman is wearing a Muslim headdress , or hijab.
The man continues to address students in an authoritative manner as they file past him, angrily telling them "You are failing your exams. You are failing".
It is not clear at this point if the man is a professor or faculty member at UCI, although it should not be too difficult to identify the man and determine his position, if any, at the University. If he is a professor or someone who holds influence over the students' academic outcome, it is quite a controversial claim he made regarding their exams, merely because he disapproved of their actions outside the classroom.
The video edit then pans to a Persian woman who is saying "I'm an American citizen when I go to the west bank, I get treated like crap", to which a cop responds "No. Get out of here. Now".

Oren is reputed to be a MOSSAD agent plying his trade in the #1 country Israel likes to spy on, steal from, attack and stab in the back, the USA, so it's not surprising that someone who appears to be a Jewish college professor would threaten to flunk someone who didn't goosestep to Apartheid Israel's latest batch of lies.

That man was probably faculty. He was TELLING them they would fail BECAUSE of their actions. It was a threat, not a statement! You can see the hate in his eyes, like the others giving the finger to the students. The are full of hate.

Given that most exams are graded by a subjective professor, the man may be telling the truth and setting up the students for failure by sabotage. I remember getting grades according to how well the professor liked me. Especially on writing and research where the grade is a matter of the professors opinion. The girl at the end was not "Persian." I find it highly unlikely anyone "Persian"(aka from Iran) would care to go to the West Bank, or worry about how they would be treated if they went there.
These protesters were religious Sunni Muslims, mostly of Arab and South Asian background, and all are members of the MSU. The Persians have their own club at UCI, called the "P" club. They are known for wasting school money on alcohol and wild parties. I doubt they would care much about Israelis or Palestinians or "current events."
