Troon Golf, Johnny Miller & Dolce Resorts take over Silverado Resort in Napa Valley

Silverado Resort in the Napa Valley, a Dolce Resort

A California landmark, Silverado Resort in the Napa Valley was once a private estate rambling over hundreds of oak-studded acres and anchored by a  circa-1870, white-pillared, antebellum-style mansion reminiscent of a southern plantation--it was built for a Civil War general on a Spanish land grant. The pillared mansion is still the heart of the resort, surrounded by towering eucalyptus, palms, oaks, and magnolias. More than 2,000 century-old, overhanging trees––oaks, willows, redwoods, eucalyptus and pines––line the fairways of the two Robert Trent Jones, Jr. golf courses, built in the 1960s.

As of this summer, World Golf Hall of Famer Johnny Miller and partners have taken ownership, and Troon Golf management and Dolce Hotels and Resorts are now on board, heralding a new era of luxury and professionalism.

25-time PGA Tour winner and the lead golf analyst for NBC Sports, Miller plans design changes on both the North and South courses, and he will soon launch a new Johnny Miller Golf Academy at Silverado.

Surrounded by vineyards and wooded hills, the 6,896-yard North Course is wide, with little water and acres of sand. Greens are big, flat, slanted and as slick as plate glass. Ducks and birds inhabit the creeks and ponds that cross or border 11 holes of the South Course. Greens are elevated, large, super-fast and softly tiered, the architect’s trademark. The great arms of the valley oaks loom over the edges of wide, seriously undulating fairways; sidehill lies are the order of the day. A 500-yard, par-five dogleg obstructed by towering pines, the 18th ends in a garden setting below the verandah of the mansion, on a green guarded by yawning bunkers.

Cottage-style rooms & suites at Silverado Resort

On-site at Silverado are one of the largest full-service spas in the state, and two restaurants, and a world-class, 17-court tennis complex. 439 rooms are clustered in cottage suites around leafy courtyards, either with swimming pools or on the fairways. Within minutes are more than 200 wineries.

Dolce Hotels and Resorts is known for superb management of luxury properties across Europe and in the U.S., while the name Troon Golf is synonymous with superlative operation of some of the most famous golf courses and resorts in the world.

Formerly the GM at the Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, near San Francisco, the new General Manager at Silverado Resort is hospitality veteran, John Evans.
