The popular series "Cool Classics" continues this Wednesday, February 16th, at the Colony Theater in North Raleigh with a 35 millimeter screening of Luc Besson's "The Professional" (1994) at 8:00 PM.
It's the film debut of Natalie Portman who just got an Oscar nomination for her role in "Black Swan" which just ended a wildly successful run at the Colony.
Also known as "Léon" and "Léon: The Professional", the film concerns a hitman living in New York City's Little Italy played by Jean Reno who befriends the 12 year old Portman after her parents are murdered.
Described on the film's Facebook event page as "an English language thriller with a European flair", "The Professional" also stars Gary Oldman in one of his finest performances as a corrupt DEA agent, and Danny Aiello as a mafioso who gives Reno hit jobs.
An absorbingly edgy urban thriller with a heart, "The Professional" has won over many film lovers over the years and it's bound to win over more Wednesday evening, and delight folks like me who have never seen it before on the big screen.
For those wondering, the screening is of the original theatrical version of the film not the "international version".
Tickets are $5.50 and there will be vintage "flashback" trailers before the movie.
