Many are puzzled that Democrats persist in ramming unpopular and destructive legislation down our collective throats while seemingly unconcerned by their plummeting poll numbers. A widespread belief is that the Democrats are committing political suicide and will be swept from one or both houses of Congress with unprecedented electoral losses next November. But since Democrat politicians rarely do things that will not ultimately benefit themselves, this column asked two weeks ago: "what do they know that we don't?"
We may have found out. It's called universal voter registration. The Wall Street Journal's John Fund described the Democrat plan recently at a David Horowitz Freedom Center forum. Watch the video:
Fund describes the proposal as follows:
In January, Chuck Schumer and Barney Frank will propose universal voter registration. What is universal voter registration? It means all of the state laws on elections will be overriden by a federal mandate. The feds will tell the states: 'take everyone on every list of welfare that you have, take everyone on every list of unemployed you have, take everyone on every list of property owners, take everyone on every list of driver's license holders and register them to vote regardless of whether they want to be...'
Fund anticipates that Congress will attempt to ram this legislation down our throats like they have been with the "healthcare" bill. What a surprise! Fund covers the vote issue at greater length in his book, How the Obama Administration Threatens to Undermine Our Elections, a very good read.
Leftist groups are already arguing that universal voter registration will solve all the problems with our voting system. But the left created most of these problems. The radical leftist Nation magazine, for example, absolutely loves the idea of universal voter registration. This is the same magazine, however, that advanced Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven's Manufactured Crisis strategy. The Cloward/Piven strategy was designed to undermine government institutions by overwhelming them with impossible demands for services. Cloward and Piven focused on welfare, housing and voting as the main targets of this strategy, and the radical group ACORN was specifically created for the purpose of executing it.
The Nation article enthusiastically lists Cloward/Piven-inspired organizations like Project Vote, the ACORN group where President Obama cut his teeth. It also discusses the left's efforts to push enforcement of the Motor Voter law, and explains how universal voter registration could assist in these efforts. Cloward and Piven were the ones who crafted Motor Voter legislation in the early 1980s and pushed for it's enactment until 1993, when President Clinton signed it into law. Cloward and Piven considered Motor Voter to be their crowning lifetime achievement. The picture below, from White House photo archives, shows Cloward (light grey suit) and Piven (green coat and navy dress) standing directly behind Clinton at the Motor Voter signing ceremony.
The left has predictably launched vicious smear attacks against John Fund for bringing universal voter registration to our attention. A Google search of the issue brings up any number of nasty ad hominem attacks. Most notable is Media Matters, the leftist group whose sole purpose seems to be smearing Republicans and defending the left's indefensible policies. They put up this gem: "Right-Wing Ass Weasel John Fund Doesn't Like Universal Voter Registration because of ACORN." Media Matters, what a class act!
The problems with universal voter registration are numerous and obvious. Many state lists include vast numbers of illegals, including some states which allow illegals to obtain driver's licenses; because many homeowners have more than one home there will be duplicates; because so many people are on so many separate federal and state government agency lists, there will be duplicates, and because so many lists exist with little or no cross-checking capability these duplicates are likely to go uncorrected. Add to this the fact that Dems hope to extend voting rights to felons and the whole thing begins to look like a nationwide Democrat voter registration drive facilitated by taxpayers.
Universal voter registration will create massive vulnerabilities to systemic voter fraud nationwide, and if Democrats have proven anything in recent years, it is that they can win elections that way. The George-Soros-funded Secretary of State project (SOS) was designed to take advantage of such vulnerabilities and may have been developed in anticipation of the universal voter registration plan. Al Franken's stolen election in Minnesota was a trial run for the SOS project. Longtime ACORN friend Mark Ritchie was elected Minnesota Secretary of State in 2006 with Soros's SOS and ACORN money, and what followed in Norm Coleman's Senate runoff election was a frighening demonstration of just how far Democrats will go to win. Franken won the runoff and the Democrats got their filibuster-proof sixty vote Senate majority.
The Motor Voter law was correctly identified as a facilitator of vote fraud. One of the few legal issues Barack Obama actually participated in as a lawyer was a 1995 suit against the State of Illinois, which he brought on behalf of ACORN. Then Republican Governor Jim Edgars saw the newly passed Motor Voter act as creating the potential for massive vote fraud and refused to implement it. With the assistance of the Clinton Justice Department, Obama's legal team won that suit. Obama himself actually participated very little, a strategy that seems to have served him well in life. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, after identifying himself in court proceedings, Obama sat back and let "the heavy-hitters at the Justice Department make the arguments..."
It is not surprising that the Democrats are now choosing to push this new initiative, for universal voter registration will be Motor Voter on turbochargers. And who better to sign it into law than the President from ACORN.

Lady Liberty takes another stab wound in the back.
Great, great coverage Jim. We need to shine more and more light on these roaches. There is also the angle of the Chavez voting machines that can easily be manipulated to change from one name to the other after someone votes, and, the WH taking over the Census and the implications there re: redistricting, not to mention the WH getting exclusive data it can use to strengthen campaign efforts.
Thanks for the heads up-- the year is only 4 days old and it starts all over again. I guess the corruption and games never stopped but just took a few days off.
Want real voting reform?
Valid picture ID, confirming citizenship and eligibility to vote at that location.
Dip your finger in ink before voting.
Long prison term for individual voter fraud.
Death penalty for systemic fraud.
Very simple to correct voter fraud...Got a social security number...you're registered. To vote you need a photo id. Once you vote indelible ink.
One change - once you vote it is noted in a database of all SS numbers.
As per earlier post voter fraud. Individual long jail term
systemic fraud (ACORN) on par with treason
How long will it be before they suspend voting and declare themselves elected for life? If it takes a revolution to get rid of these corrupt politicians so be it!
Civil war is coming to this country. It's time to lock and load!
The United States Constitution allows the Federal Government to do certain things and everything else is left to the State or Individual. The Constitution has meant very little to the last several Administrations but Obama has shredded it worse than any other.
Make April 15 election day and hand in your Fed Tax return as your voter ID - many problems would soon fade away.
Every time the dems do something like this we're one step closer to armed insurrection. The 2008 presidential election was probably our last as a United States. If Obama and his brownshirts try to disarm the citizenry there will be a bloodbath that will make the Stalinist purges look like a church picnic.
Al Franken's victory convinced me that our democracy is already dead. You had ballots turning up in abandoned cars being counted as valid. Here's a guy who has failed at everything he's tried to do in life, and he gets kicked upstairs to the US Senate. It's outrageous.
The solution is not voter reform, or a third party -- the solution is a massive transfer of power back to the states from Washington.
We really have to get serious about this with the tea party movement. We should present a list of specific demands to Washington. Stop spending is not a specific demand. It means nothing to them. Repealing the Federal Reserve Act and demanding the fair tax or else would actually get their attention.
If the 2010 elections become fraudulent, there is pretty close to 0 chance that Americans will not dismantle the current and install a new government.
I hear you talkin about Civil War - WELL BRING IT ON YOU JERKS. I'm ready to be the first kid on the block with a confirmed kill of a right winger! ALL CONSERVATIVES WILL DIE FAST.
I don't know how this would be legal, since rules re voting are, constitutionally, the province of the states. In order to get around that, the feds would have to get the states to voluntarily adopt and comply with the federal mandate (as they've done with education and other matters); this usually requires the outlay of federal money.
This doesn't suprise me at all sadly. There has to be a reason that the Dems aren't concerned about their poll numbers. The stimulus money hasn't been spent so where will they use it? Look at the recent hc bill and you will see. This $$$ was used to pay off senators and will be used to pay for votes. ACORN is still in play and the Dems have proven time and again that they will cheat starting with the Gore debacle of 2000. If they try this, look to see the situation go nuclear. Half of this country doesn't think the way they do in this administration. Ignore that half at your peril because we are not going to go quietly into that good night.
Hey "Bring it on"
How about if you do us all a favor and work at being the first kid on your block with a basic understanding of the Constitution and a basic grasp of history?
Then you can work on finishing that G.E.D.
Just one senate seat away from ending the filibuster proof majority.
We see now that Democrats are fully into totalitarianism.
Bring it on: none of you lib pansies would be able to kill anyone because you hate guns and refuse to allow gun ownership. What are you going to do...bore me to death? Remember, the largest armed force in the world is the American citizen and 90% of those are conservatives.
Excellent! Finally the Democrats are playing politics like the Republicans. Good news indeed.
Of course, this assumes Horowitz got his facts right, and yes, that is a mighty large assumption...
to James Simpson: the adjectival form of "Democrat" is "Democratic". Please use it.
to some commenters: Why is it, when conservatives lose an election, they begin threatening treason? Despite President George W. Bush's stolen election in 2000 and manipulated re-election in 2004, there were no calls on the left for armed insurrection. What's the point of democracy if you threaten to kill us if we don't vote for you? Just go ahead and start your military coup if that's your only answer.
This is absurd. Every minimally conscious person knows vast amounts of 'official' lists are corrupted.
I live on the fringe area of a town where we belong to the next town's school district. A petition asking that we be allowed to belong to our town's district required signatures from 90% of homeowners. After getting the required signatures, it turns out the tax-roll list (their determining record of who lives there) included numerous names of people who have long since moved or died.
Even after bringing proof (property tax records, etc.) they insisted they had to go from their antiquated record and if it's wrong WE had to go to the county to try and unravel the bureaucratic mess.
These bureaucrats couldn't care less that their records are all screwed up.
sfHeath:
I use Democrat as opposed to Democratic everywhere and always to emphasize that the Democrat Party ceased to be remotely democratic decades ago. I will continue to do so.
"I use Democrat as opposed to Democratic everywhere and always to emphasize that the Democrat Party ceased to be remotely democratic decades ago."
Please justify that accusation. When did the change occur? In what ways would you say the aims of the Democratic party are not determined by the input of democratic voters? In what ways are primaries in the Democratic party not determined by democratic elections? And in which ways are the Republican party any more "democratic" than the Democratic party?
Should I begin using the word Rethuglican to emphasize that the so-called ideals of fiscal conservatism and small government bear no part on the Republican party during at least the last eight years?
Ha Ha Ha, Bring it On go hand out in your mom's basement. Liberals would be wiped out in a Civil War. Ha Ha Ha, what a joke.
Let the Dems have their closed door, secret meetings. Wonder if they know the Republicans, and most Americans are in their secret, closed door meetings too (war room). If they want war, they are few, and we are many. Only 10 more months if not sooner.
I'm actually still laughing at Bring It On's statement. Ha Ha Ha Ha, OMG. I picture Bring It On in a tight black hoodie, tearing up almost crying over the anger he feels for everything that is normal. He sips his triple shot coffee and writes angry poems and then goes to play an angry X-Box game where he can actually be dominant over fake people on a tv screen. Ha Ha Ha, what a joke you are. See you down range, maggot.
You sorry ass pansie liberals need to go back to kenya with your natural born leader!!!!!!!!!!!!!
another disgusting liberal wish. doesn't surprise me. whatever happened to my right to not be registered?
Wellhung: (I doubt it) No one on this site gets to talk that way, you scumbag. Your comment is deleted and you're banned.
sfHeath: My statement about Democrats needs no justification. Your reaction simply proves that you don't know what you don't know. Democrat politicians have been abusing their power, consorting with our enemies, and generally destroying this country while enriching themselves and their friends for the past five decades at least.
I am calling for a tax revolt. They can't ignore that. I'm looking to organize over a million people, to unify and send a message to the tyrants that we will not allow them to confiscate our wealth and do as they please with it. We will not allow them to run roughshod over our God-given Constitutional rights. We will not allow them to destroy our great country, and replace it with a Socialist nightmare.
Anyone who wants to join with me, please visit my blog "Revolution of Liberty". I have outlined a simple, 3-part plan that will immediately stop our payments to the federal government in the form of income taxes, while putting more of our money back into our own pockets and truly strengthening our economy.
THE GREATEST LESSON MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. EVER TAUGHT US, IS THE POWER OF NON-VIOLENT PROTEST THROUGH CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE.
Just type in "revolutionofliberty.com" into Google.
This article is such a bunch of unbelievable crap I have to believe the writer is taking some mega-doses of whatever Rush Limbaugh is smoking. What is wrong with people voting? Having a say in who represents you is what this country is all about. It's what world wars were fought for. This article from beginning to end does nothing but betray and deride the men that fought and died for this right. Shame, shame, shame!
Bring it on=parasitic oxygen thief.
"Democrat politicians have been abusing their power, consorting with our enemies, and generally destroying this country while enriching themselves and their friends for the past five decades at least."
Thanks for engaging me. However, what you state here is actually word for word true of Republican politicians, far more true than of Democratic politicians. Just in the last eight years, we have the politicizing of the Department of Justice for abuse of power; the radicalization of jihadis caused by Guantanamo, Abu Gharib, and Bagram counts as rallying our enemies; and the no-bid, billions-wasted contracts to Blackwater and Halliburton are just a couple of the myriad ways Republicans enriched their cronies.
I've given you a few examples off the top of my head. If you would like to point me towards the equivalent actions of Democratic politicians, please do so. I don't think they exist, but would be depressed to learn otherwise.
Concerned:
You should be concerned about voter fraud. The people who want this have no problem with fixing elections, and since Motor Voter was passed, vote fraud has become an increasing problem. Before you start calling what I write "crap" I suggest you do 1/100th of the research I have done to bring this information to your attention. Vote fraud was Cloward and Piven's intention when they began pushing for it. Read up, idiot!
sfHeath:
Sorry. You are simply repeating Democrat talking points. We did NOT provoke terrorism with Abu Graib or anything else. They have been on the warpath since the 1970s and before. Do you recall the Marine Barracks bombing in Lebanon? What about Leon Klinghoffer? Were they reacting to Abu Graib when they pushed him off the Achille Lauro cruise ship?? Khobar Towers? African Embassies? USS Cole? Were you aware that Bill Clinton used Halliburton at least as much as any Republican president? Do you know why? No you don't. It is because Halliburton is/or was the only organization capable of the myriad activities for which they contract in the Middle East. It's called expertise. Same with Blackwater, an excellent group of primarily former SEALs. You wouldn't disparage them, would you? The rest is tripe fueled by ignorance. Read up on Alger Hiss, Harry Hopkins, Harry Dexter White, etc. All Soviet agents who were promoted by Democrats after it became painfully clear they were traitor
What ever happened to 'State's Rights' ?? Registered voters need to be screened as closely as humanly possible.
This is treason, and those who propose it should be dealt with by committees of vigilance. If necessary, a second civil war would be justified to prevent this.
I am not simply repeating Democratic talking points. I never said that USA treatment of prisoners as ordered by the previous administration started or provoked acts of terror against us - I don't believe in time travel. What I said was from Major Matthew Alexander (pseud.), the interrogator responsible for the intelligence leading to Zarqawi's death. Hardly a stooge of the DNC! According to him, "the reason cited by the great majority [of al-Qaeda recruits] for coming to Iraq was what they had heard of the torture in Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib" as reported by independent.co.uk.
I also question why Halliburton and Blackwater would be afraid of an open bid process for contracts if their expertise is unique. Note I'm not questioning your perception of them, nor disparaging any veterans of any kind who may be in their employ. I simply believe that the Army Corps of Engineers and the US Military could and should have done their jobs, conforming to UCMJ all the way, for a fraction of the cost to taxpayers. Or do you believe the fighting forces aren't up to the job?
And thank you for the pointers to those three names at the last. I will read up on their history. However, I still allege that the last eight years prove Republican leadership of our country has led to a disaster, and I don't think you've disproved that.
Shadow Merchant: No, this isn't treason. Treason is advocating armed rebellion against the government. Win the next election if you want things your way, but don't try to terrorize your political opponents. Not in the U.S.A.
Hang in there, Jim Simpson. I doubt you'll get through to someone as dense as sfHeath but others read your replies too, and some will catch on.
War is coming to this country! Liberals will not have the spine or guts to stand up to us! It's time to lock and load, and don't shot till you see the whites of their eyes!
sfHeath, advocating a rebellion is the most Patriotic thing one can do if it's done to toss out an unconstitutional government, one whose leader is not American. Read the words of Thomas Jefferson and the founding fathers, they advocated the very thing you're claiming is wrong. Your words and the words of other liberals re-enforces my belief that Thomas Jefferson and the other founding fathers would be sent to gitmo if they lived in the time of barry 0bama.
Study American history heath, don't go by your feelings, I know it's hard for a liberal to support what the founding fathers wanted our nation to be, wanting instead for the constitution to be considered a "living breathing document". You need to type less and read more, alinsky doesn't count. He'd be hung until dead for his treason by the founding fathers.
Class dismissed, child.
Gary,
Meanwhile, in reality, Obama won the '08 presidential election by 192 electoral votes. That's over 70 million ballots and a 7% popular vote margin, as reported by CNN. Call me crazy, but that's how we elect our government. You don't get to declare it unconstitutional just because you disagree with it. If you could point me to the passage in the Federalist papers that tells the losing side of an election they can take the power back by force, I'd appreciate it.
Not once have I responded in an emotional manner, nor have I argued my position from emotion. I have provided supporting material for each of my assertions. You have not, nor have most of the people on this thread. I have also thanked Mr. Simpson for the research he pointed me to. But every time someone like VIETVET says that shooting their political enemies (who happen to be American citizens) is ok, I'm going to object to that.
P.S. VIETVET, thank you for your service. I just disagree with your opinion he
Re: Halliburton & Blackwater and many other functions of government, it is frequently easier, and frankly more effective to get contractors for certain jobs. I never heard that those co.s refused an open bid. How do you know that?
RE Abu Graib, it is difficult to square what terrorists are willing to do with some being "offended" by Abu Graib. Get real. They are schooled in what to say. Bush & Co. made mistakes but never subjected this country to the kinds of risks Obama is. Go to my website Truth & Consequences and read what I have written about Iraq & Bush's record.
If people were truly interested in what is going on, who got elected, and things in general, they would take their couch potato butts down and register to vote themselves. It would not take an act of Congress to require states to automatically register everyone who is on some sort of list. What's next, having the states fill in the blanks for those who stay home instead of going to the polls. We are better off iwthout these idiots voting anyway.
sfHeath - You may need to be educated on what "Treason" really means. Don't take my word for it:
treason |?tr?z?n|
The crime of betraying one's country, esp. by attempting to kill the sovereign or overthrow the government : they were convicted of treason.
the action of betraying someone or something
DERIVATIVES
treasonous |?tr?z?n?s| adjective
From Latin traditio(n-) handing over, from the verb tradere.
USAGE Formerly, there were two types of crime to which the term treason was applied: petty treason (the crime of murdering one's master) and high treason (the crime of betraying one's country).
treason
[noun]
the treason of Benedict Arnold will be recounted for centuries: treachery, disloyalty, betrayal, faithlessness; sedition, subversion, mutiny, rebellion; high treason, lèse-majesté; apostasy; literary perfidy. ANTONYMS allegiance, loyalty.
You see, if our "elected" representatives fail to uphold their oaths - they commit TREASON!
Pelosi is a professional liar when she says this was bipartisan and trnasparent congress. They have hid and slithered and sneaked this whole health bill past and not allowed the GOP to participate. Bachmann says all her letters to the president with suggestions went unanswered. Whatever happened to the promise all would be aired on CSpan????
Obama = tool for the communists!
At our founding, only property owners could vote because they had a stake in the outcome, and our founders wisely foresaw that if you didn't, you could simply vote yourself into your neighbors back pocket, and there goes your PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS, which were seen as synonymous with pursuit of happiness. Motor voter puts the toxically ignorant and morally aberrant in charge of America's future- the average American citizen now has the equivalent of a sixth graders education compared to our founders, and the morals of penal colony residents (who, thanks to liberals once again regain voter rights as if NOW they will be upright citizens who won't sell their votes for a carton of cigs), so no I don't believe they should vote, or take MY private property, or enable those who steal with govt blessings (liberal politicians-all dems and some rep plants and infiltrators) to do so either, which is the only logical outcome of motor voter and every other liberal game plan. Think about it, please
