Rep. Luis Gutierrez warns Obama, wants him to grant amnesty now

On Tuesday, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) was arrested along with others protesting the continued deportation of illegal aliens by the Obama administration.

Gutierrez is once again, pushing the DREAM Act which has failed to pass Congress several times over the last decade.

Fed-up with the American people’s continued rejection of the legislation which would grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, the Illinois Congressman wants Obama to use his executive powers to simply sign the DREAM Act into law.

Gutierrez issued the following statement: “The President says Republicans are blocking immigration reform and he's right, but it doesn't get him off the hook. Everyone knows he has the power to stop deporting DREAMers and others with deep roots in the U.S. and we think he should use it.”

This publicity stunt is only the latest effort by Rep. Gutierrez on behalf of this nation’s illegal alien population.

In April 2011, Gutierrez embarked on a 20-city tour across the country to rally support for yet amnesty, telling a crowd at Lincoln United Methodist Church in Chicago that Obama should now use the executive power of the presidency to stop deportations.

Gutierrez said: “I have nothing but the greatest desire to vote for Barack Obama. I have nothing but the greatest desire to be helpful, and to join arms with him, and march across this country toward his re-election. But I cannot do that. We cannot do that, until we resolve the current conflict that exists between this administration and its Immigration policy.”

Since it has become obvious that the American people simply will not allow Congress to pass amnesty in any form, whether under the rather misleading title of “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” or the innocuous-sounding bill known as the “DREAM Act,” Gutierrez now wants Obama to ignore federal law basically impose his will upon  the nation.

Gutierrez has let Obama know that if he does not issue amnesty, by decree—Latinos may simply stay home on Election Day 2012, rather than cast another vote for a president who allows the deportation of illegal aliens.

Gutierrez recently said: “I don't owe my allegiance to a party. The party must owe its allegiance to the people. I want to make sure comprehensive immigration reform comes about. I really, really hope it comes about in a Democratic administration, but I really wouldn't care who gets the credit for it.”

In addition to granting legal residency status to millions of illegal aliens who attend college or join the military, the DREAM Act would also give amnesty to convicted criminals, including those who have committed assault, domestic violence, DUI and document fraud.

Because of the wording in the most recent version of the bill, any illegal aliens convicted of a federal or state crime which carries a prison sentence of a year or less, or those who have been convicted of two offenses with a combined sentence of under 90 days, would qualify for legal status.
