As has been rumored for some time, the Obama administration has started a ‘backdoor amnesty’ and has begun to drop large numbers of deportation proceedings against illegal aliens. The new policy started quietly about a month ago in Houston.
On Tuesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman, Richard Rocha, announced that the Department of Homeland Security is now reviewing thousands of immigration cases and prioritizing them according to criminal history.
If an illegal alien has no serious criminal record, that is, no felonies—deportation proceedings are simply being dismissed. Illegal aliens who have been inside the country for at least two years and have only been convicted of misdemeanors will be allowed to stay.
While the dismissals have only begun en masse in Houston, Raed Gonzalez, an immigration attorney briefed by Homeland Security's deputy chief counsel in Houston, recently told the Houston Chronicle that DHS is now reviewing cases nationwide and the policy is expected to be implemented throughout the rest of the country soon.
As he has done many times before, Gonzalez went into immigration court on Monday to represent several illegal aliens facing deportation. However, this day in court was different. Gonzalez said: “[The court] was terminating all of the cases that came up. It was absolutely fantastic.”
Of course, to those who want to see the rule of law respected, the new policy is seen as being far from “fantastic.”
Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies said: “They've made clear that they have no interest in enforcing immigration laws against people who are not convicted criminals.”
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) stated: “This situation is just another side effect of President Obama's failure to deliver on his campaign promise to make immigration reform a priority in his first year. Until he does, state and local authorities are left with no choice but to pick up the slack.”
Tre Rebsock, the ICE union representative in Houston, said the Obama administration’s order is “going to make our officers feel even more powerless to enforce the laws.”
Unable to get an amnesty bill through Congress and facing ever plummeting poll numbers, Obama has simply decided to become our undocumented dictator and make up his own laws.

What we have to do is remove from office all the policitians, Democrats and Republicans, who support amnesty for illegal aliens and those who support the Dream Act (green cards for illegal students). Remember in 2012 do not vote for Obama. We have to elect people who will enforce current immigration laws and who will oppose amnesty for illegal aliens. Obama and his Democrats do not want to deport illegal aliens. OK, we will find people who will do just that, Obama.
The responsibility for this backdoor amnesty falls on congress. They need to start impeachment hearings immediately, or they are an accessory to malfeasance. It's that simple.
As much as I had liked President Obama, I have to totally disagree with him on the illegal immigrant situation. If they are here illgally, they should go back, and if they have a family, they need to go back with them--don't want them here, and see them cry on TV, like we did something to them. They came here on their own without an invitation from the citizens of this country.
If you live around them, by them, ride bus or train with them, you know exactly what I am talking about. It has nothing to do with the color of their skin, it is how they live that is so difficult to stand.
They run down every community they live in and around.
They take jobs that citizens without work could and would be more than glad to do if they could get the jobs.
I want the illegal immigrants back in Mexico and our citizens not living on the streets, and their having the jobs.
Take for instance, the egg farms in Iowa. I grew up in Iowa. Iowa citizens would not have "an egg recall." Before I heard that there were illegal immigrants, I just knew they were there. It is such a shame that this type of thing goes on in our country and the government does nothing about it--we got along VERY WELL FOR MANY YEARS, expecially in Iowa, without illegal immigrants, and this would be a better country without them.
The illegal immigrants have put this on themselves. We did not put them in the situations they are in and want them out.
They can go back to their own country and march and picket and kill and rape.
Mr Dave, thank the illegals for putting food on your table for always writing garbage about them...
Jose Cuervo
They do not deserve to be 'thanked' for anything. They did not come here to share in the American Dream, they came here to steal it from those that are waiting their turn in line. They are not deserving of our sympathy, but rather require our condemnation.
As far as this new disgusting agenda of the -0- administration, the term 'failing to uphold his oath of office' comes to mind, which is an impeachable offense. When the legislature is in conservative hands, it will be time to bring charges against him. Under the Pelosi/Reid reign, it will never happen, but they are on their way out now.
What can one expect from an Administration that hates white America?
Dave, do you think this will get the January 2011 House of Representatives "going' on impeachment? A lot of folks are calling for it and more will join them as this news gets out. Not enforcing the law--and letting foreign lawbreakers go without deporting them is criminal. It's one thing to push for Amnesty. It's quite another to beak Federal law and your oath of office in the process.
Jose Cuervo have you been hitting the bottle again?
backdoor amnesty’!
IMPEACH HIM
look obama is gonna get his gun control now.after his fast and furious screw up he had to find another way for the government to steal our guns. tada now the same illegals that send money to mexico in the millions will now be legal to make straw purchases. and you know obama will blame everyone else pay for the buttheads he just made citezens. cant be like europe gotta fight now. liberty is ours if we can keep it. do you want it?
