To gain support for ending U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) Raids and police brutality human rights violations in Los Angeles, Centro Cultural Francisco Villa's Union del Barrio's Community Center, the "Centro," is holding a Reggae and Ska fund raiser Friday night, September 3d at Salon Acapulco in South Los Angles.
Among live bands performing are Arise, the Delirians, the Bohunks, Mente Corrupta and others. Doors open at 8:30PM with a $5.00 cover charge.
"The fundraiser is for the Centro Cultural Francisco Villa's Union del Barrio's Community Center where dozens of community meetings are held monthly, including the Southern California Immigration Coalition meetings. These organizations are probably some of the most active grassroots organizations in LA fighting against the ICE Raids and Police brutality in LA.," organizer Ron Gochez stated.
Gochez is the Social Justice Educator/Community Organizer of Union del Barrio - Base Tierra y Libertad.
"Because Union del Barrio is not a non-profit organization, we do not receive a single penny from the government or any foundations. Our work is strictly community supported and community operated.
"Not a single member of our organization gets paid to organize. We are all volunteers. As of right now, the Centro is in serious danger of closing because of financial problems. We believe that this Centro is vital to our community because it is a space that's open to groups to have meetings and hold small events."
The group states that 100% of the donations/money raised will go towards the political work of Union del Barrio and the Centro Cultural Francisco Villa.
"We know that it is the support of our community that will allow us to remain open to serve our community. La union hace la Fuerza!! Venceremos!"
'Total Overkill'
Under the Obama administration, middle of the night SWAT team ICE raids ripping babies from nursing mothers and tearing apart families have increased in cities such as LA. such as the one late June on the Los Angeles company, Terra Universal Inc. that produces equipment for semiconductor and pharmaceutical manufacturers.
"The company's attorney, David Ross criticized the agency for using a search warrant and employing "SWAT" techniques rather than simply asking for the employment records," according to Anna Gorman of the Los Angeles Times.
"Ross said agents spent the whole day at the plant on Raymond Avenue, preventing workers from leaving and stopping sales, production and shipping.
"'It was total overkill,' he said. 'You don't need a warrant and 40 ICE agents to come in and storm the place;" reported Gorman.
ICE has been deporting immigrant military veterans, "Banished Soldiers." Thousands of U.S. veterans are deported and separated from their American families or are under constant threat of deportation.
The U.S. Army strengthened efforts to recruit more skilled soldiers by offering a fast track to U.S. citizenship if immigrants enlist. (Voice of America News, US Army recruits immigrants, Rewards them with citizenship, 13 April, 2009) Many answered the call, many of whom are college graduates and received Medals of Honor. After serving to "protect and defend Americans," they were then detained and/or deported.
According to the Cato Institute, immigrants account for more than 20% of recipients of Congressional Medals of Honor, the country's highest award for battlefield valor, equating to more than 700 immigrants who served the U.S. in wars with heroism "beyond the call of duty," many losing lives or seriously injured - but many of whom have been deported by ICE. Detained, veterans and other immigrants can experience torture and outsourced killings.
Immigrant deaths in detention were a driving force behind pressuring the Obama administration to promise overhauling the sprawling, inhumane immigrant detention system a year ago. There is still no accountability when immigrants are mistreated or tortured by outsourced corporate contractors profiting from the booming detention industry.
"While the administration has made some modest steps forward, their strategy lacks one crucial element: accountability," reported Carla Long for Human Rights.Change.org.
On International Human Rights Day, a combined STOP the War on La Raza and Stop the Wars in the Middle East! march and vigil was held in protest of imperialism and President Obama's "PEACE" Prize awarded the same day. The groups condemn the numerous and continuous Human Rights Violations perpetrated, supported or funded by the U..S Government.
Gochez had said that the groups were calling to
1) Denounce President Obama's administrations continued attacks on Immigrants as well as the Imperialist wars of aggression against Iraq and Afghanistan as grave violations of Human Rights.
2) Demand immediate end of all Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) Raids and FULL LEGALIZATION for all migrants and immigrants.
3) Demand immediate end to the Imperialist wars that President Obama continues to launch against the people's of Iraq and Afghanistan.

I think it's sad that babies have to suffer because of the CRIMINAL acts of their parents. Parents who knowingly committed a crime by crossing into another county illegally. Then, they're surprised when their house is raided and they're caught, just like any other criminal.
If they don't want this treatment, then they should obey the laws and apply for legal immigration instead of putting themselves and their children in potential harms way by illegal activities.
