The recent Blue Plague article by Michael Edwards has been met with gratitude and concerns about conclusions suggesting a man-made bio-chemical is cause of the widespread Gulf maladies. These illnesses are nevertheless causing some residents desperation, as one of today's calls for help reflects.

Saturday, one of the messages from an ill Gulf Coast resident to the Examiner reads:

"I am doing the best I can. but I now have absolutely no income. Food Stamps just denied me for the next 3 months, without a bonafide reason. I am in a quandary as to what to do next. They have no office, just a phone number, but they have it looped to hang up w/o being able to leave a message...very frustrating....

Man-made, biochemical, drug resistant Blue Plague?

"His emotional conclusion, however, blames all the symptoms we've been experiencing and/or had reported to us on these biological agents introduced into the Gulf by BP and our government, in contradiction to what we know about the effects of the chemicals in the crude oil and Corexit."

LaBarre cites the case of Kinda Arnesen, "gracious about everyone in the world being concerned about her bout with a staph infection, which I understand was eventually knocked out once she found a doctor who would properly diagnose and provide her the treatment she knew she needed: a super antibiotic shot."

"Had she had this antibiotic-resistant GM biological agent, it seems to me that she would not have been able to rid herself of the infection. Nor should everyone who experiences any other malady believed to be caused by or exacerbated by (and probably is) BP's and the fed's Gulf mischief conclude that they're infected by these biological agents."

Because few doctors are testing Gulf illnesses, their diagnoses are invalid, and so, therefore, are their treatments. These are three reasons Doctors Without Borders enter areas to provide aid. The organization, however, does have borders - US borders, so they will not help Gulf Coast people at this time.

"Testing is needed," sates LaBarre. "If biological agents are involved in an infection, cultures should be able to be taken, grown, and identified."

Spreading such information has been among the greatest of challenges for people with the compassion and knowledge about the Gulf public health crisis.

One woman associated with the barefoot doctors stated Saturday:

"I was just at a neighborhood gathering. i was speaking with a woman who owns property in Tampa. i asked her if she was concerned about going down now - with the Corexit. Everyone in the room looked at me as if I had two heads. I completely dropped the subject. People cannot hear things that take them from their comfort zones - and it distresses me..."

LaBarre recommends appealing to people's concern for pets to help facilitate learning about the danger zone in which they now live.

"If they don't have young children, elderly relatives, or family members with health problems to talk to them about being especially concerned, talk to them about their beloved pets --tell them not to allow them to drink rainwater and about all the pets who are suffering from coughs and other respiratory problems, miscarriages, and tumors already."

"People in the Lower 9 are particularly concerned, because not only is it on the river and the Industrial Canal, it's just upriver from the infamous Murphy Oil, which polluted the area during the Katrina floods and recently spewed poisons throughout the area, and it's of course not far from "ground zero" in the Gulf.

Gulf Coast Barefoot Doctors urges residents to report newly forming outreaches in respective communities.

We in New Orleans, especially in the Lower Ninth Ward, have known this at least since Katrina."

"Oh, regarding the name "Blue Flu," I agree with "Dr. Tom" that we should give full credit to BP by making it own its monstrous creation in the title: "BP Blu Flu," "BP Gulf Syndrome," BP Gulf Plague..."
