You need to make the decision yourself and, after reading the information,
decide if this whole issue is being blown all out of proportion or if indeed the
Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is completely out of control and is a
law unto themselves, accountable to no one, and is driven by a series of
administrations as corrupt as anything imagined.
This link is to a District Court decision forbidding the BLM from rounding up
horses in Colorado. The details are there, the decision is final, read it for
your own education.
Next to the final line is this statement, A prerequisite to removal under the
Wild Horse Act is that BLM first determine that an overpopulation exists and
that the wild free-roaming horses and burros slated for removal are excess
animals.

Previous statements by the BLM was that they would remove only 70 of 190 horses.
Today they are exceeding that number by going beyond their specific Herd
Management Area (HMA) and rounding up bands outside of their legal perimeter in
Custer National Forest, branding and tagging them and shipping them to holding
pens ready to be sent away. All this is being done by a contractor previously
convicted of ..capturing and killing unbranded horses, mares and colts running
at large on public land.
Lets just momentarily forget the fact that the BLM is attacking this one herd
for reasons not fully explained and that no mention has been made of the extreme
interest in this area by the Skyline Uranium Corporation, which has direct ties
to the United Arab Emirates.
Lets overlook the fact that we only have (the numbers are in dispute) between
12,000 to 30,000 wild horses left free on land belonging to you and I, that they
are being removed because of " over population ", " for protection ", " to prevent
starvation ", and are being replaced by eight MILLION head of cattle.
I suggest that we don't even think about the fact that cattle ranchers have
fenced off access to water, that a reportedly two-thirds of the BLM budget goes
to feeding and care of the 30,000 horses the BLM has previously rounded up, or
that the BLM cannot come up with the data necessary to determine how many horses
a range can fully support.

Today I became aware of another fact, one that is so shocking and horrid that it
is impossible to even think about. The BLM supposedly has 30,000 horses in
holding pens scattered throughout the US, doing nothing more than waiting to
die. Now we find out that the BLM refuses to release information on the exact
number. Why?
There is a very good possibility that large numbers of these once symbols of
America have been secretly shipped across the borders and slaughtered with the
full knowledge and acceptance of the BLM. An investigation is now underway. I
expect nothing more than a continued cover up by the government. It will take
private individuals and organizations to find out the truth.
The White House is being bombarded by phone calls, yet not one word is being
uttered. Today, Clouds herd is being destroyed by the very government that
promises " to protect, manage, and control wild horses and burros to ensure that
healthy herds thrive on healthy rangelands. The BLM manages these living symbols

The BLM is doing what needs to be done to make sure that 100 years from now there is still wild horses for people to see. Leave them alone they have done nothing wrong, no horses are being hurt and they are not going to just kill them. To many people just read what they want to read. or someone thinks they heard something and then before you know it all heck breaks loose and it is not fact it is just some old bitty sitting at her computer thinking she seen something somewhere that said something. HfH.. you need to keep your mouth shut. you do not know a thing about what is going on here in Montana. You just take care of all them mustangs from 3X and let us take care of ours. I think the author is trying to tell us the sky is falling and is hoping for another serving of "Free Bubble Up and Rainbow Stew." In the end, nearly all natural resource advocacy groups end up trying to generate funding for and interest in themselves through as much controversy as possible, however well meaning and well intended their original intentions were when founded. John, you are too naïve. The horses designated for sale are sold to contracted buyers and most of them are kill buyers. The BLM is not doing anything to ensure the wild mustangs are here in another hundred years, they are managing them for extinction. Read the BLM FOIA and it’s all there in black and white. They can’t back up their numbers and every time you question them, it’s a different answer. They ignore the American public and Congress. The Pryor mountain herd is barely viable now. Remove 75 and give the mares PZP and how do you think they are going to survive? You have bought the BS from the Bureau of Lies and Manipulation hook, line and sinker. Do you know about Skyline Uranium? Don’t you think it’s strange that a man federally indicted for stealing horses and sending them to kill has a government contract with the BLM for the round ups? It is time to end the tyranny of the BLM. They listen to no one. The break the law and get away with it. Congress needs to stop the BLM dead in their tracks and make them accountable for their reckless actions to destroy the wild horses. The BLM is fiscally irresponsible. The GAO has been very critical of the BLM and they have YET to respond to Congress.
If the government wants to SAVE money, the government needs to dissolve the BLM. The BLM is a rogue agency that is destroying the wild horses into extinction. The wild horses did fine before the BLM "managed" them and they will be fine again without the BLM.

I have lived with the wild horses in my back yard all my life and as i am over 50 I guess that is a long while.. and as for watching videos to see what a mustang does or does not do is for fools... you can cut and paste on a video and only show what you want or make it look like what you want... someone says something then someone else says the same thing but adds just a little something to it.. and so on and so forth.. or someone reads something and only reads what they want to see.. not what the story is saying so it all gets blown up or is not what was said at all... see that in the 3X thing. Leave BLM alone and let them do there job. They know what there doing.

No suprise the next day she was not allowed back around the chutes.
At one time perhaps the BLM was doing its job, NOW on the other hand its not. Now it is currupt anwaisiting taxpayers money an taking away animals from lands that belong to us the tax payers!

FOIA Documents Reveal BLM Secret Plan to Destroy Wild Horses
June 11,2009
Documents obtained from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by a Phoenix-based non-profit, The Conquistador Program, reveal shocking and detailed plans to destroy healthy wild horses in government holding facilities as well as those still remaining in the wild on public lands.
BLM employees as well as a USDA veterinarian held weekly “Implementation Team” meetings beginning in July of 2008 in which they discussed and developed strategies aimed at ridding BLM of thousands of mustangs. In October they completed a 68 page document entitled “Alternative Management Options”.
Tactics included in this document are reminiscent of those used to wipe out Native American tribes in the 1800s.
The BLM team created scenarios for killing mustangs using barbiturates, gun shots, or captive bolts. Bodies would be disposed of through rendering, burial or incineration. They dis

They discussed killing 1200-2000 wild horses per year.
The document states that “the general public would be prohibited from viewing euthanasia.”
Additionally, the Team felt that “increased support from public relations and management staff would also be needed to insulate those doing the actual work from the public, media and Congressional scrutiny/criticism.”
“Minutes from these meetings as well as the Draft Plan reveal what amounts to ‘the final solution’ for the American mustang,” states Ginger Kathrens, filmmaker and Volunteer Executive Director of The Cloud Foundation.“

Despite a huge outcry from the American public last year regarding BLM plans to kill wild horses in holding, the agency is still pressing forward with a plan to destroy our American mustangs both on and off the range.”
Division Chief of the Wild Horse and Burro Program Don Glenn told The Cloud Foundation that “no decision has been made to move forward on a large scale with this plan, yet.”
BLM meeting minutes speak for themselves. “Security at facilities and at gathers would need to be increased to combat eco-terrorism. Having the people that are willing to put down healthy horses at gather sites could be a problem.

Having vets putting down healthy horses at preparation facility[ies] could also be a problem. Meeting minutes reveal the psychological toll that employees would pay—“have counseling for employees and contractors that have to euthanize the healthy horses because it is very stressful.”
The report created an option in which wild horses of all ages could be sold
“without limitation”. In other words, horses could be sold directly to killer buyers in unchecked numbers. The Team admitted that “some wild horses will go to slaughter”.
“Once they are gone, they’re gone” says Karen Sussman, President of the International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros.
“To lose this incomparable species would be a travesty.”

BLM Team Members formulated ways in which they could circumvent the National Environmental Policy Act, asking “How many (wild horses) could be euthanized during a gather (roundup) without having NEPA?” BLM discussed ways to circumvent the federal carcass disposal law (43 CFR 4730.2).
Conversations included how many wild horses could be rendered at the Reno Rendering plant or “disposed of in pits”. The Team concluded that “there will not be large numbers of horses euthanized during gathers or in the field. This is due to state environmental laws.”
Recommendations include the creation of gelding herds, and sterilization of mares to create non-reproductive herds in the wild in place of natural herds.

The team recommended changing the sex ratio from the normal 50% males and 50% females to 70% males and 30% females. Then the experimental two-year infertility drug, PZP-22, would be given to all mares that are returned to the wild. Plans call for rounding up the wild horses every two years to re-administer the drug.
“Mares on the drug will cycle monthly and, with the altered sex ratio, the social chaos will be dangerous and on-going,” Kathrens explains. “Any semblance of normal wild horse society will be completely destroyed.”

Kathrens has spent 15 years in the wild documenting mustang behavior for her PBS television documentaries which chronicle the life story of Cloud, the now famous pale palomino stallion she has filmed since birth. “Even Cloud and his little herd in Montana are in serious danger if BLM implements these options,” she continues. “The BLM plans a massive round up in Cloud’s herd beginning August 30, 2009.”
The BLM will not guarantee that Cloud and his family will remain free.

This is not about fundraising. It is about a government that is out of control. This goes beyond horses. I don't have time to educate you, so do the research and if you have half a brain you will be able to see whats going on and how the BLM constantly contradicts itself trying to cover its lies. Theres over 250 million acres, somewhere in that area if they wanted to there is room for bison. Again like the horses, they don't bring in $ and therefore don't have a chance.
These horses have a right to their freedom. Leave the horses on the BLM land.
