Hollywood culture dictates a wannabe star either do something sensational to get the attention of the press -- or something so shocking that you make people talk. While filming her reality television show, Bristol Palin got into a bar fight with a man at a place called the Saddle Ranch. The video footage hit the Internet full blast on September 23, 2011.
Seen first in film footage riding a mechanical bull, the former Dancing With The Stars contestant was happy to show her rough rider self. Once thrown, a bar patron began to heckle the young reality television star about her relationship with ex-lover Levi Johnston and her famous reality TV mom.
Calling Sarah Palin a slew of names riled her daughter up. Telling Bristol Palin she was white trash from Wasilla and implying she was part African-American and the bi-product of an inter-racial love affair her mother allegedly had with a black athlete infuriated the star.
Her response -- one she intended to be an insult?
She called the man a "homosexual" as if she were hurling a dirty word. Then, she got up in his face and argued a bunch of other random and illogical stuff like a 5th grader arguing with a classmate in a grade school hall.
Because the drama was so well documented and her verbal actions seemed so calculated, seeing the footage aired was not shocking in an of itself. However, the bar fight topics were disturbing to anyone who saw the footage and started to think about it -- including bar patrons who felt the incident was staged.
Was her angry reaction to the heckler staged as many Internet users on social media websites like Facebook and Twitter have indicated?
If so, several key questions emerged.
- Was her anger at essentially being called mulatto offensive or appropriate?
- Was her heckler out of line or a stooge helping her to win more free publicity (for better or for worse)?
- Was the bar fight staged to implicitly make African-Americans and the LGBT community look bad in the eyes of anyone who saw the footage?
Bottom line, many people are claiming that regardless of the man's negative and inappropriate comments, Bristol Palin revealed a level of her own bigotry in her words and challenging actions that could only come from one place -- the culture of her life at home with her famous family.
For that reason, this filmed incident from the Bristol Palin lifestyle documentary could be troublesome for her celebrity mom if Sarah ever elects to run again for a national political office.
Was Bristol Palin behaving in a way that was dignified and appropriate for a potential presidential family member -- yes or no?
