March 30th is Pencil Day. Also known as Free Pencil Day or Pencil Appreciation Day, one thing is certain - today is all about pencils. Although many of us use keyboards today, pencils have been used for hundreds of years.  In 1858, Hymen Lipman, from Pennsylvania, received a patent for his pencil with an attached eraser.

Have you ever wondered why most pencils are yellow?  Did you know that a single pencil can write 45,000 words and write in zero gravity? And rumor has it that a single, ordinary pencil can draw a line 35 miles long.   And how on earth do they get the “lead” inside those pencils?
